Children's week on 4 more toons is enough to drive me insane
Tep,
Why did you stay?
As soon as 5 people stated they needed one cap, and a 6th stated he needed "7"...you know, DC your modem or something, eat the timer if you have to, and move on, as there are only 3 flags to cap in any WSG..
On a side note: What makes you going for your achievement any different than "this other guy" going for his?
Before you answer, "Because you can only do yours for x amount of time"..think about how much "time" it would take you to get 50 captures, when one has you pulling your hair out..He very well could have been working on this for months, and he is supposed to step aside, just because it is children's week?

No the achievment is to return a flag taken... that can be done as many times in a match as people keep takin the flag and don't get a capture, as long as the match continues. I stayed because I kept trying, I don't like quitting. I also stayed in the next match, even after I got my return on that toon, because I don't want to be "that ass" that bails after he got what he came for. I stayed to help my side win, even though I don't care about the win or the points for me. It seemed the decent thing to do.

As I said, he was within his "rights" but was being a dick. The nice thing would have been to take one and let everyone have one. Especially since this was the last day any of the rest of us could do it. I've been working on this for 2 years so the fact he was working on it for months.. is irrelevant. He had just as much right to be selfish and take whatever he could, as anyone. But that doesn't make it nice. And his attitude was the "screw you" type, that's what I have the biggest problem with.

1. If his time spent is irrelevant, so is your 2 years.
2. I have never, EVER NOT clicked our flag that needed returning, nor would I wait for "someone" else to, in a BG. As soon as you start doing this, the enemy druid sneaks up, grabs it, and hauls ass with it.
3. You didn't like this guys attitude, about as much as he didn't like his normal PVP routine being invaded by a bunch of PVE "noobs" looking for a "cap" during childrens week.
4. Your argument is very one sided. You talk about what is "fair", and what is "nice", but only from your perspective. Were you "nice" enough to gear your character out in PVP gear before heading into these BG's for children's week? Did you buy and use speed potions? Health potions? Did you offer to help this person get his 7 out of the way, if he would help you get yours?
I understand your frustration, but only to a point. How far is the world supposed to bend so that YOU can get YOUR achievement?
You say you didn't like his attitude, and I would agree with you..
But I will also say that I don't like the attitude that just because it is children's week, you expect the world to stop so that "you can get yours".

i still don't understand how people can want to do that sort of stuff. i'd rather go mow my lawn and run 10 miles in the snow than do childrens week on 2 characters!
i can't even do the same level grind on 2 different characters unless its been months since i did the first one. same content makes me sad.

I don't know what Blizzard was smoking/drinking/snorting when they came up with this kind of crap. Putting PVP requirements on a PVE World Event just serves to piss both camps off. The PVErs resent being forced to venture into the dark and dangerous world of PVP and the PVPers resent having the sissy carebears invading their sacred turf.

Blizzard used to be one of the top names in games, but for me, they jumped the shark 4 years ago. Rift may be a clone, but it does all the right things well, and most of the @$@$ that Blizzrd does wrong, Trion does right too.
I don't want to discourage you about Rift endgame... so I'll stay quiet.

I wouldn't say that Blizzard jumped the shark. SC2 is great, and there's plenty of good in Cataclysm. Their problem is that about a year ago they began to believe their own hype, and have become extremely sensitive to criticism (and oddly combative, because you'd think they would have grown a thicker shell by now). It just feels like no one working on WoW enjoys what they do anymore and it comes through when they communicate to fans or even the press.
I'd also say it shows with how uninspired a lot of their recent efforts have been. They like to cite how, overall, they've recycled very little content. They never mention that most of the "new" stuff they have delivered the past year-or-so is almost all recycled. So yea, five years of mostly new stuff, then a year of old stuff with tweaks. I'd say the passion is gone.

I never said his time spent was irrelevant, I said it was irrelevant whether he had taken months on it, as I had taken years on mine. The point was, it's not about who took a lot of time (or mine would win, but the point was it was irrelevant. The point was one of us was limited to exactly 1 week each year by Blizzrd. So the other might want to be a *bit* accomodating on this last day. Or at least just keep quiet about it and don't rub people's nose in it.

Yes in fact, I did. I made myself a set of PvP gear, at least the starter 85 gear, and bought a few other pieces. I have an alchemist too, so yep, came with full set of potions. No, I didn't offer to help him get his 7 as that would be very dumb of me to assume there would be any left for me before the BG was over. I thought having everyone get a turn at one was fair enough. IF you come to an event and say you think you deserve to have the first 10 pieces of cake, and there may not even be any more than that for others, I think most right minded people would be OK with me saying "um, no that is selfish". No offense, but think about it - that was a dumb suggestion.
Look, most decent people recognize fair and nice, and they recognize someone who is being a selfish jackass. I do get that you are trying to play devil's advocate here and defend his attitude. All I can tell you is, I didn't even get into it with him when he started snatching every flag he could. At that point, he was just choosing to be competitive about it, and though I would wish for him to be nice about it, was not about to act like it was expected. It wasn't until he started throwing it in our faces with his comments like "click faster" or "get a better PC with less lag" and then laughing when people were getting upset with him. At that point he went from being someone who didn't care to help others, to someone who was being a jerk on purpose.

I expect people to be nice to each other, nothing more. Comments like "you expect the world to stop..." shows me you don't really understand the points I'm making. No biggie, dead thread, enough said.
Anyway, I fully realize there are multiple valid viewpoints to this. The fact that Blizzard seems to think everyone MUST love PvP like they do, so they keep fidning ways to try and force it on others, is a big par of why I unsubscribed last night. Setting the players up to be jackasses to each other, well, there is enough of that in the world, I don't need to seek it out, much less a sandbox which caters to the attitude.

I'm taking my own sweet time, so may not get to endgame soon anyway. But I'm judging them on how well they communicated with us during closed and then open beta, how they communicated after their first failed world event, and the fact that they seem to have taken mostly the "good" from WoW, added the good from other MMOs, and have a really solid (but not perfect) game. Most importantly they don't seem to think they are above the players, and they are so far trying hard to have good community and good communications.

I could say the exact same thing about guilds, raiding, and PVE in general
And also, I really do understand you wanting to finish that quest..it just seems like you ran into one guy, who would not bend to the situation, and you have focused all of your frustration and anger on him when in reality it is just a frustrating quest any way you slice it.
