Part IX - A Sunny Summer Day
We move forward approximately two and a half weeks through the blistering heat of summer in a Wyoreginia June. Our intrepid hero, Clark, heads out on a bike ride with his younger sister, Laura, age 14. Their purpose is to pass by the moving sale of some family friends in another neighborhood (that they knew from church). After having visited with the departing family, the duo heads home. We now join them as they pedal along the calm streets of suburbia.
"I'm going to miss the Smiths."
"

eah, we won't be able to swim in their pool anymore, hee hee."
[A cry is heard from behind.]
"What? Who is that?"
We come to a stop and I turn and look at the blonde-haired girl and the younger (about 10 years old) girl coming towards us, making a vigorous effort at getting our attention.
"Oh, hey, I met her at church a few weeks ago, they just moved in. That must be her younger sister."
Indeed, it was Emily and her sister. After some brief introductions, we decided to go meet the family back at the lair...err, house.
I should indicate that at this point, I had no knowledge at the time of anything that transpired after I introduced Emily to Jack that first night. As far as I knew, she was a perfectly normal human being who was new to the area. Oh, how wrong I was.
Back at their house, we met her parents and 3 brothers, one younger than her and two older than her. They seemed like pretty cool kids, so we told them all to come for a swim that evening after they had finished unpacking a bit. 7:00pm would be the time.
[Note: My family doesn't have a pool, but a friend who lived about a block away had one that she never used, as an older, single woman living in a house, so we kept it clean and got to swim whenever we liked.]
