My bassets are the same way, as are Jorrdan's.
No off-leash, no wireless fences.
With the Husky, I recommend a 6 foot privacy fence, preferably not a Chain Link one (they can figure out how to climb them).

Indeed. Bassets would be gone as well. Too many things to sniff out!

He wouldn't even step into the house, which is fine with me.
Right now he is on a 20 foot chain..under a row of white pines. We will need to build him a house (will they go into a dog house? Or are they weird about that?)
I have around 75 feet of chain link fence rolled up bh the garage ..i suppose we could use that..but it's only standard height, maybe that would be ok.
We could maybe make some sort of line..I do have 1 acre..but I have filled it with fruit trees and pines..and a couple gardens. I don't want him to be bored.
I would love to find him a home..maybe we could just be his foster family until I can find a farm for him.
I barely slept last night checking on him every couple hours.
He seems very lovey dovey.

Ohh..I haven't tried unleashing him yet..I wondered about that.
His name is Sabien, he will come to me if I get on his level.
I am off work tommorow again, I asked Mom and Dad if I could let him run out there for a bit..they have over 100 acres. Will he come back to me? lol

They are curious, intelligent and full of personality.
They are work dogs (they do best when they have a job) and require TONS of exercise.
Because of their large size and demeanor, obedience\good citzenship training is a MUST. It needs to happen every day.
Escape artists that get bored easily. Make sure they are not left off leash and that their area is secure.
They don't do well in the heat and warm weather. Get the lil guy a wading pool for spring and summer so he can cool himself off.

Essentially, like most large work dogs, they can be a whole lot of trouble if you don't give them a consistent schedule, lots of exercise and discipline. If cared for properly, they are wonderful family pets that will give you many years of joy.
HTH
You nailed it Tali.
They are a pack animal so as long as he sees you as the pack leader he will respond.
Also he is a Nordic breed, he was bred to think for himself. Meaning they were breed for the Nordic tundra. They have a job relationship with man, often it being so cold, man is in the igloo at the end of a day and the dog fends for it self outside. This leads to some people calling them hard headed. But if you give him a job and work with him he could be a real joy to be around.

I have owned a Siberian Husky (Mogul) and an Alaskan Malamute(Summit). The more friendly companion, between the two, was the Alaskan Malamute. They are both beautiful wolf-like dogs. I did a lot of snow-shoeing in the Cascades with Summit. I really bonded with this dog. Mogul jumped a 6-7 foot fence and was killed by a car (see Jordan's post above). Summit is the last dog I have owned since 1988. He had a congenital disease. It was heartbreaking to say good bye.

They need to run, but absolutely can't be trusted off leash. If they are going to be let off leash, it needs to be in an area where they ultimately can't get away.
edit: to clarify, don't leave them tied out back.

Thanks for the input. I am torn on what to do, I can't just give a dog like this to anybody. I think we will care for him until the most perfect home becomes available for him.
My guy thought it was odd how the dog acted like he already knew me..he came up to me said hi, sat on my feet and laid all his weight against me. He is very sweet..his eyes are as blue as the sky.

You mentioned your parents had 100 acres, any chance they could take him under their wing?
100 acres is a good plot of land for him to 'roam' and patrol...

If your plan is to leave him outside on a chain, I would seriously advise you to find a family more willing to address his needs.
