Id say an Outpost driven letter writing campaign calling for the immediate removal of the unconstitutional aspects of the Patriot Act and the NDAA. Those who refuse get voted out. They'd HAVE to listen to us then!

Two things, the root of our problems are literally that we have allowed ourselves to stray so far from the constitution. The second is the media establishment, the massive amount of pure bullcrap that gets poured out of the media on a daily basis is society busting. And by media I don't just means the news, it is also the pundits and talk radio. Nearly all of the establishment people are partisan hacks and rabid liars pretending to be things they are not.
The mainstream news desperately pretends to be unbiased. The talk radio people fervently pretend to staunch defenders of all things America. Your supposedly public radio is overflowing with propaganda.
Turn off all of that crap, find independent sources that you can digest at your own pace and who actually provide source claims for their opinions that you yourself can verify and not get tossed on a circular track of nothingness. If you observe the news properly, you will often notice that they completely omit sources or pretend that the source isn't relevant.

True democracy in a place like say the city state of athens will work... in a place of 330+ million people and roughly 3,794,083 sq miles of coverage will not work...
That said the perks need to be gone from public service they need to return it to public service so only those that truly want to help people get to the position... and if wishes were horses then beggars would ride.
