I'm not a pro-lifer. Far from it. I'm also about as far from a fan of a racist homophobe like Santorum as you can possibly imagine. But I have had people close to me lose their children late into their pregnancy and it's a difficult thing to deal with. I wouldn't have dealt with it the same way, but I don't see anything wrong with people doing so themselves. It's their loss to deal with, not mine.

I can see that after 20 weeks of thinking they were having a new baby this hit them hard but driving the fetus home where "they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2" is a bit much. I grew up having Nuns whack away at me for years in school, and also attending funerals. I just do not remember anything this weird, not do I remember very young kids being drug into things.

They brought the child's body home so that the other children would know that their sibling was a real person.

Just - what, were they afraid the kids would think their parents were lying about where they'd been?

They are weirdos, plain and simple.

Agreed, normal people don't bring carcasses home to pass around. Even crazy people don't do that. I'm surprised that he didn't relate that story about his grandfather with them passing his body around the funeral home and has he held and kissed him he could recall how that man DUG HIM HIS FREEDOM!

I hold it against him because he filmed it and invited the press to interview his 6 year old daughter about it a day later.

They are weirdos, plain and simple.

Some people deal with a stillbirth or death of a newborn by shutting it out and trying to get on with their lives. Others deal with it by personifying the child as much as they can. Nobody can tell you the right way to deal with something like that. They dealt with it in a way that was in accordance with their beliefs. I won't knock them for that. I'd rather focus on the fact that he's a bigot than how he dealt with the loss of his child.

Again, this didn't happen.

FFS, what the hell has happened to the Outpost that I'm the one defending Santorum to Hughes and others?

If you want the full story of the event, feel free to check out Cspan and watch a 1998 interview with his wife where she discusses how they brought the body home and why they took pictures with the other children holding it so they would know he had been born and lived and was now in heaven and why they felt it was a good thing to have their children tell others about his miraculous a blessed life the next day when they put the funeral notice in the paper.

It's one of the creepiest hours of old video you could ever watch. The woman appears completely demented during the entire interview and the priest who conducts it isn't far behind her. These are not normal people. They are bat shite crazy nut bags.

Yeah, I watched some of that last week when I first heard about it. There are a number of excerpted versions of it that I can't remember where I saw them. Probably crooks and liars.
