The volt, and all the problems associated with it, are a result of GM decisions that had nothing to do with the bailout. The biggest thing the government may have done was push emission standards but that does not really have a large impact on the list of problems.

Ford is now not selling small trucks anymore. In a few years there wont be an American auto industry.

You people have a short memory or don't know cars. Probably both.
Last gas price spike, you couldn't find a Prius on the Toyota lots because they were all sold or reserved. Demand was huge and while the other automakers had fuel efficient vehicles, not much electric which is what people wanted. I hope you'll save some outrage for Ford, who will now sell you a 100% electric vehicle in the Ford Focus Electric. Or the Nissan Leaf or any other in development electric vehicle that market demand has prompted. I'd have thought that the volt still possessing a gas engine would make some of you mindless conservadrones at least pause and consider for a second that there may be some potential for success in this car.
Electric vehicles are a trend. Like I said, it's only a matter of time before gas prices spike because of middle eastern conflict and demand increases. Those of you painting this as: government takes over GM --> starts pushing green agenda --> government electric vehicles produced
are being disingenuous on multiple levels and ignoring the rest of the industry.

GM knew the thing wouldnt work. The evil people who ran GM just threw something together quick to try to please the stupid and I mean stupid politicians in Washington to get a handout
For real viable alternatives look to foreign hybrids.
