I am now going to have to watch a soccer game on ESPN to see if you are telling the truth.

Do they cut away for injury time outs during these soccer broadcasts? I know that sort of thing can't be scheduled but would be a hit or miss deal - sort of impromptu commercials where the sponsor will pay an ad hoc fee if their ad gets played?

The last time I watched an international game on ESPN was the Champion's League final in May. That definitely did not have commercial breaks during the halves.

I have no clue what MLS does because it is a joke league and I don't watch it.

I've never seen that and I've watched all the major English language foreign feeds (ITV, Sky, Al Jazeera, GolTV, Setanta). When there is an injury they show the treatment process and the commentators chat about the injury or about other things. I've never seen them go to a commercial. I honestly think there would be riots in the street if they did. The game not stopping is an article of faith for soccer viewers. Even when there is an injury the clock doesn't stop in soccer so if you showed a commercial it would mean you weren't really broadcasting the full game.

Well they add time at the ref's discretion for injuries, so it's not like there's no accounting for that time.

ESPN definitely has multiple breaks. That was specifically one of the networks i was alluding to in previous posts.

PS. Watching straight through without breaks has several disadvantages. You miss action when you have to pee or get up for any other reason, it limits conversation with whomever you're watching the game with, and you can't divert your attention for anything else or flip channels.

I rather like the breaks. It gives me a chance to do whatever i gotta do. I can call my entire family on Sunday through all the breaks, and catch a few snips of other games.

Yeah, but that's not the point. It's "added time," not "replacement time." Even the nomenclature reinforces the philosophy.

The game doesn't stop in soccer. If it did it wouldn't be soccer any more. There would be riots in the street if the broadcasters I watch tried to pull that shit.

The game does stop lol. It's not like the guys with the stretchers are dodging other players kicking the ball and running past them like some old Laurel and Hardy silent film.
