Like I said, in soccer the commercial break is precisely timed.

As it is in football, see edit.

No they arn't. Your edit says they happen at unpredictable times and last unpredictable lengths. That is the opposite of being precisely timed.

In soccer you know the one commercial break in the game happens between the first half and the second half and lasts precisely 15 minutes. That is what I mean by precisely timed.

Edit: And i've never seen a soccer game with only one commercial break. That isn't the norm at all.

Seriously? You watch soccer games that have commercial breaks during the halves? How would that even be possible?

Who cares? It's only soccer and smelly foreigners and a few American kids watch it. You know.. people that don't count.

I think some American networks chop them up to appease the corporate overlords

They are precisely timed to coordinate with specific actions that occur in the game. So the fans don't miss any of the action. There isn't an issue here, it's the best way to handle it.

And again, i've never seen a soccer game that does their ads how you say. Perhaps you watch foreign feeds, which would mean it's more of a difference of how the media from each place differs, having nothing to do with the particular sport.

I am really intrigued by this. You are correct I watch foreign feeds.

Are you telling me that American broadcasters actually don't show the soccer game live and instead break it up to show commercials? Or that the game actually STOPS in the middle of a half for a commercial break?

Well, no game is truly live, they're all delayed. Yours is probably on the standard x second delay, while ours gets delayed further by pausing for commercial breaks. I'm not really sure about MLS games, as i've only watched once ( ) I'm strictly talking about Euro/Brit games on US networks.

watching a game is usually a social event if you aren't some sad no friend having loner douchenozzle....then commercials are time to talk about previous events/highlights w/o interrupting the game

Yuki I call BS that you've never seen a soccer game broadcast by an American broadcaster. Your feigned ignorance on the topic is comical.

Two facts we know.
1) You hold duel citizenship.
2) You like soccer.

From those two fact we can extrapolate that you've at least seen part of a soccer game while in the US broadcast by an American broadcaster. If you are saying you ONLY watch foreign feeds I don't by it. You've never watched a game at a friend's house? At a bar?

Tych, yes and no. I have watched soccer games on fox soccer channel, which is an American cable channel. They don't pause for commercial breaks except during the half. I've also watched international soccer on ESPN, and they don't pause except at the half either. I assumed all U.S. broadcasters were the same, but maybe those two are how they are because they are speciality broadcasters.

I have never, ever watched a soccer game that had commercial breaks during the game. Ever. It honestly floors me that they do that.

You do see commercial breaks before kickoff and after the end of the game. But that isn't during the game either. Once the game starts (at a precise time), it goes for 45 minutes straight. You then have a precise 15 minute half-time break during which there are commercials. Then you have another 45 minutes of straight game without commercials.

I am honestly absolutely stupified and disgusted that anyone would break up a soccer game to show commercials. It is completely anathema to the culture of the game.
