The danger to capitalism is people using government to gain an advantage. This tilts the system into something evil. The solution is to get government out of it along with giving everyone the information they need to make wise choices. If you know a company is breaking the moral rules you will not shop with that company. If you know a company is sending out bad food you will not buy food from that company.
When you have "government inspectors" you put a human factor that has the force of government. If government makes the rules then the companies will put more of their money into government to insure they have the advantage over others. The threat to them is not government but new companies with better ideas. They use government to put land mines in the way of anyone starting out.
Governments love status quo. It is against change. If you want things to never get better than they are then you should support big government.
There should be no doubt that the current economic problems were created by government interference in the housing market. Yes, greed and stupidity created a house cards that the housing crash caused. Nevertheless we would not have the crash if not for government interference.
Obama often uses the excuse we should keep his failed policies because of the bad old days of Bush. What he fails to say is his policies were a major part of the bad old days. More of what was wrong is not going to fix anything.
It is my opinion that Obama does not want to fix anything. He thinks the worse things are the more power government can grab, in order to fix it. He believes he can “campaign†his way out of our problems, even if the major problem is him. Sadly he might just do it.
So you are saying that we should remove all regulation and reinstate Standard Oil and Ma Bell. Then when we don't like their prices or services we could go to another provider?
Like now, I have Comcast as a cable provider. I don't like their prices or services, I can go to another cable company in this free market. Or I can pick another telephone company? Or another Trash collector, or water company? Oh, that's right. I can't because in some of these cases private companies form monopolies with government for THEIR advantage.
