No, it'l just have special replicator brands of things. They never say give me a starbucks espresso, they just ask it for a coffee. But starbucks wouldn't exist in that future anyway so it wouldn't matter.

Which coffee? Someone has to create a template. And he will demand money for you copying it.

Capitalism is an incredibly flawed and inefficient economic system that requires constant growth to continue to exist. This growth will be created by those who control the system no matter what, at whatever cost in human suffering that is required.

It is also the very best system we have devised...as of yet.

The recent destruction of most limits and regulation forced upon the economic system by government has brought new attention to it's flaws, and new limits and regulations will be enacted. This will help alleviate some of the biggest excesses and abuses of the system, but it wont fix the central problem in it. Namely that capitalism creates a view of humans as assets or liabilities based upon their economic output. Which is fricken horrible.

Eventually the pendulum will swing back and people will come to think of people as more important than the money they produce, it's happening already in many parts of the world.

A more equitable and sane mix of free enterprise and collective bargaining will be formed at some point. It will probably still be called capitalism, but it will not be anything like what we call capitalism today.

It continues to amaze me that anything that isn't Laissez-Faire Capitalism is considered socialism\communism.

Adam Smith (you know, the dude who we credit as being the father of capitalism) believed in progressive taxation, regulation and believed that a strong moral center that served the people were essential parts of Capitalism.

Capitalism is not a force of nature - we have control over how it manifests and what it does.

Most people who rail against capitalism are actually railing against fascism.

It's true that capitalism needs to be properly regulated in order for it to serve the people rather than for the people to serve it. The difficulty in that is that our government has become quite literally, extremely fascist and there is almost total collusion between our government and the corporate entities.

Obviously the corporate entities are run by humans, as is our government. They're both just groups of people scratching each others' backs.

We need a reboot.

Either/or thinking is pretty much a requirement for the modern coservative movement to succeed.

Socialism imo is better, that way at least everyone has a fair shot at services and jobs.

socialism isn't good at innovating or using excess resources. The idea that everyone would have jobs without understanding output or demand shouldn't be something anyone would even want.

Isn't that a good thing looking forward though i.e using excess resources? Perhaps this consume approach isn't working for us?
