I don't think Ron Paul will endorse the Republican nominee. In fact I bet he endorses Gary Johnson who will be the Libertarian candidate. If that happens I bet we'll see a double digit loss by the Republican.
Ron Paul is a conman and a non factor. He just says outrageous things to get popularity and sell books and stuff.

He is a high degree conman. At least some candidates have a history which shows things they accomplished. He just does speeches and mostly makes symbolic worthless votes in congress. He is a conman of the greatest order
People who support him are just as dumb as the ones who believed all of Obama's wild promises

No one likes being told they need to eat vegetables. Most candidates promise pie and cake for every meal. Ron Paul says you've got to eat some vegetables too. It's no big mystery why Ron Paul is less popular. He's less popular for the very reasons that he is right.

No.
Ron Paul is saying I want you to pay for the stuff I want the guys who already have much more stuff than you are going to get in the future.
Basically, being for Ron Paul is like being for self castration followed by being anally raped until you die.

Something will need to be done someday but Ron Paul is not the person to try to fix things.
I think it will take a huge disaster like a Great Depression for the US to finally fix things with its out of control spending
Another major problem is the rapidly aging population and the shrinking workforce to support it.
