We've had a presence in that area for decades.

It's more like Iran getting mad and wanting to take their ball home. Except the biggest kid on the playground wants to keep playing, and already doesn't like them very much.

They're either gonna keep playing and keep their ball, or they can go home and we'll keep their ball.

The Straits of Hormuz are international waters, a primary trading partner conduit and some of our key allies border it. There is nothing wrong with us patrolling it. Not to mention pirates frequent the Straits as was seen by the US warships aiding an Iranian boat not 6 weeks ago.

I disagree with the sentiment that a small craft couldn't get that close.

But I also disagree with the sentiment that this was an act of war.

It's definitely not an act of war.

It would be stupid to treat it as such. Even if it were a justification for war, which it's not, it wouldn't be in our interest to pursue it.

Unless the Iranians do something overtly hostile that poses a major threat we should leave them alone and let them languish under sanctions.

We don't have anything to gain going to war.

How long before the CIA fabricates another one of these so that we have an excuse to bomb?

We don't.

The MI complex does.

And it's been shown in recent years that what the MI complex wants, it gets - no matter what the populace thinks.

I don't think so in this case, or we'd be at war already.

There are a lot of big money players that have interests with this conflict. Not all of them stand to gain by going to war.

Our entanglement with China makes dealing with Iran and Syria very difficult. Unless Iran or Israel does something major I don't see us going to war.

They had the same entanglements in Iraq and Afghanistan as well and only reaped huge oil and mineral contracts out of the deal....

No, not really. Iraq and Afghanistan were both expendable. No one depended on them for anything that wouldn't become cheaper and more available with them out of the way.

China and Iran have a good relationship which is very beneficial for China. China will want to protect Iran for their own sake, and we don't want to sour relations with them.
