Why? I have hereditary high blood pressure.

I am doing nothing to put myself into a position that the blood pressure pills are designed to "prevent".

These pills are nothing more than "preventive" maintenance for me.

I think I know that.

Okay well we're done. You can't be honest what preventative means.

And these pills are going to prevent that how?

What do they travel you back in time so you can shoot your dad in the face osmething?

Do they allow you to travel back to the moment you were conceived and allow you to alter your DNA to remove this condition?

Tych nailed it - you don't understand what the word preventative means.

And you'd be wrong.

The fact is, the school, or the church by extension, has stepped out of it's domain and into a government regulated service.

I'm a simple man.

From what I know, my pills are designed to prevent:

stroke (highest risk factor is high blood pressure)

impaired vision (blood vessels in the eye can burst (this is what caused me to go in initially - my vision is slightly blurry still))

arteries (high blood pressure is connected with the hardening of arteries)

kidneys (high blood pressure can screw up the blood vessels here and cause problems)

heart attack/heart failure (high blood pressure is the #1 risk to congestive heart failure)

These pills are helping prevent these five things (at least)...they are not 100% successful (obviously). Birth control pills are designed to prevent the normal outcome of sex, something one elects to partake in - but is obviously not 100% successful.

I would think that was obvious - when on these pills my blood pressure is normal (again, not 100% of the time).

I would also think it was obvious - when on birth control pill you stay normal (again, not 100% of the time).

Sometimes the pills fail what they are meant to prevent. In my case, the above five listed items.

In the other case, a pregnancy.

As to this, you are simply applying the 'preventative' wrong. The real point is, what are you preventing...

Preventative would be something that prevented the high blood pressure. Perhaps a gym membership or something like that.

If you still don't understand ask your pharmacist. CVS pharmacists will be more than happy to explain.

I like how folks are trying to pretend it's this one, super radical feminist that is trying to force her radical viewpoint on poor, defenseless institutions. The truth is the opposite. almost two-thirds of the people in this country want contraceptives to be covered. They have been covered for years in many states, and, in many Catholic hospitals and schools with no problem.

Once again, right wingers are shocked, SHOCKED at something that has been happening for decades, and pretending like it is a brand new fight.

If contraceptives aren't covered, insurance premiums go up.

The majority of people want it.
It saves EVERYBODY money
It cuts down on abortions
It cuts down on families missing work for family leave or for dealing with those kids as they grow up and get sick and such
Viagra is covered. Complaints from the Bishops and from the right about that? <crickets>

But, keep on pushing. Every day this is an issue in the media, another few thousand women are motivated to vote Democratic.

Contraceptives have been covered by private insurance for some years now...generally with a co-pay.
