I read that article earlier. I'm not a fan of price fixing at all and yet I can't help but wonder why Fisted is angry about the free market and private enterprise at work. The publishers, who, you know, publish the books or e-books, wanted a larger part of the profits made from sales to the retailer (the retailer in question was trying to corner the market on their own product by selling e-books for peanuts, thus effecting the publisher bottom line as well), so the publisher moved to a different format. For selling their product. The retailer doesn't have to sell that product, right?
Why so mad, Fisted?
Because that is not free market. Only a liberal with no idea what a free market is would think otherwise.
corporations are doing what they want and acting in their bet interest.
Heck you even know about it and have a choice...
How is that not a free market?
Are you suggesting it won't be a 'free market' until after the government steps in and tells them how to price their products?
Did you forget to take your meds?

Usually when people talk free market they are talking about markets that are free of monopoly and oligopolies.

That seems wrong. A truly free market is a market where there's no government interference.
Now most free marketers support some level of government intervention to stop monopolistic behavior but I don't think that changes the definition of free market itself.

Oligopoly is a type of market. I would not call this market a free market. I would call it an oligopoly.

The fundamental ignorance on display by Yuk. Not his fault really. He has never been exposed to the truth so it we can hardly expect him to know it.
Yes, going by strict definition a free market would be free of all restrictions. Liberals are good at making up words to fit their propaganda (see subsidy) but always resort to the strict meaning when attacking Conservatives.
Our understanding of a free market is one where no one has complete control over the pricing of a product. Competition must prevail! This means no price support. No government picking who wins or loses. No too big to fail. No special tax breaks that only they can get. No special rules and regulations that prevent others from getting into the market. No “license†to restrict the number of competitors.
Government should be there to insure everyone plays within the rules. They should be there to stop the cheats and liars. Sadly they have mostly failed on all account.

There are three kind of liberals;
Stupid, ignorant or evil
The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run.

So you say Yuki is ignorant and then you agree with him.
If publishers want to set the price of their products, why do you want the government to prevent them? Consumers don't have to buy from them, amirite?

@ Yuki. I have rarely ever heard people say they are advocates for perfect competition or perfect markets. I have heard plenty of people say they are advocates for free markets.
Fist's post is so full of stupid it is pretty stupid to act like there is some great pwn in the use of the term free market.
