I've kept a long way from Apple for 30 years. I could see the direction they were going. It not a shock that Liberal picked the most restrictive system. Their thoughts on the subject? Sure prices will go up but that is what we want anyway.

U.S. and European officials have been investigating whether publishers and Apple acted together to drive up prices in the booming electronic book industry, blocking rivals such as Amazon from offering cheaper e-books.

Antitrust rules forbid price-fixing agreements designed to shut out competitors or drive up what consumers pay.

The book says that Jobs, who died in October, was aware of publishers' frustration with Amazon. It quotes Jobs as saying: "So we told the publishers, 'We'll go to the agency model, where you set the price, and we get our 30 percent and yes, the customer pays a little more but that's what you want anyway.' ... So they went to Amazon and said, 'ou're going to sign an agency contract or we're not going to give you the books.'"

There are three kind of liberals;
Stupid, ignorant or evil
The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run.

Talking about liberals is pure puma lunacy but on teh subject he's right. They fix pricing so that an e-book, which you are not supposed to share, is $12.99 while a paperback is 9.99, and you can give that to someone else when it's done. Of course it's price fixing.

So is the price of games. You think that $59.99 was the number that Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and their licensees came up with individually based on their cost structure?

They've even managed to drag PC games to that level. It will be $69.99 before you know it and only a twit would think that they are not getting together and agreeing on the price point(s).

It's blatantly illegal but they do it anyway. I'm surprised they get away with it. It doesn't work in their other industries but for games nobody says boo.

I read that article earlier. I'm not a fan of price fixing at all and yet I can't help but wonder why Fisted is angry about the free market and private enterprise at work. The publishers, who, you know, publish the books or e-books, wanted a larger part of the profits made from sales to the retailer (the retailer in question was trying to corner the market on their own product by selling e-books for peanuts, thus effecting the publisher bottom line as well), so the publisher moved to a different format. For selling their product. The retailer doesn't have to sell that product, right?

Why so mad, Fisted?
