Teachers are the new boogeyman true. Basically society is collapsing because of teachers - our pensions destroy the economy and our lack of teaching skills are destroying our children and then of course add in the crimes teachers commit and yep we have a god old fashioned witch.

Should it really take years of appeals to fire bad or even pedophile teachers? Even that staunch democrat L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says it should be easier and cheaper to fire teachers, he says it costs LAUSD an average of $300,000 to dismiss a teacher

Court cases can take years and when that is done the minimum two years of dismissal process can proceed. It shouldn't take two years to fire anyone and costing an average $300,000 is outrageous. The local school board and they alone should have the final authority to fire teachers.

Education is used by politicians for political purposes - this is why tenure exists.
otherwise teachers would be hired and fired with each new administration - same reason for professors.
In NYC you have three years to decide if a teacher is bad and they can be fired at will before they get tenure. after that you have to prove they are bad since it didn't show up in those three years.

Tenure is an unneeded anachronism, the protections provided to every public employee are sufficient.

A teacher was feeding students his sperm but of course that is a witch hunt, he is a teacher so naturally he didn't do anything wrong. This attitude is what is protecting criminal and bad teachers, because it is better that 10 pedophiles be allowed to teach than one innocent teacher be accused. The kids don't come first in our current system and the teachers want to keep it that way, schools would be a nice place to work if it weren't for all the students.
