There was a story last week where someone was trying to get smoking banned on someone's back yard because the smoke was drifting into their yard and their children had asthma.

Nike had a similar policy ~15 years ago when I worked there (at the world HQ outside Portland). Had to get in your car and drive clear off the campus to have a smoke.
One smoker on my shift/building had a panel van, on breaks 15ppl would jam themselves into it like it was the high school tokemobile. Whichever smoker had the best parking spot would wait for the van to show up and trade spots with him, so we could all get to it faster. Security would bust people for sitting in their cars smoking, if they could see them.
Incidentally, unless the gas station is owned by the company, I don't see how they could ban smoking there. Especially if everyone made it a point to buy their smokes there. The gas station would want the business.

My new company has a similar policy.
It sucks donkey balls.
I bought an e-cig and sneak into the bathroom when I'm dying. We'll see how that works out.
