"The Tobacco Free Policy went into effect on January 1st, 2012, stating: Tobacco use of any kind is prohibited at any time on Company premises, including the surrounding property. The surrounding property includes parking lots and other outdoor locations. This policy applies to all employees, customers, vendors and visitors on Company property.
Since that time, we have observed two violations that need to be addressed. The first is identifying what constitutes as “surrounding property,†as several employees are smoking in prohibited areas. This includes: the gas station property, the Credit Union property, the median off (edited) Avenue, the far side of the parking lot gates, the drainage ditch, the parking garages or the stream out back.
We would also like to clarify when you can leave company property. Hourly employees may leave the property if they are on an unpaid lunch. If you are on a paid break, you cannot leave the company property. Salary employees may only leave the company property during their regularly scheduled break time.
Since employees have had sufficient time to adjust to this new policy, management will now be taking disciplinary action for those violating this company policy effective immediately. First warning is a verbal, second is a written, third is three days unpaid from work and the fourth occurrence is termination of employment due to violation of company policy.
For those interested in quitting smoking, (edited) provides the “Quit for Life†program through the American Cancer Society. This program is free of charge and includes coaches and aids (lozenges, gum, patches, etc.).
