Zimmerman is claiming self defense and the state of Florida is big on letting people shoot other people in the name of self defense.
Also, as a completely unrelated aside, Dumblewhore also lives in Sanford.

So, has there been any determination made by law enforcement about the validity of his self-defense claim?

Local cops say the don't have enough evidence to make an arrest. FBI is being called in last I heard. Public opinion around here is pretty much split as far as I can tell.
Seminole County FL is pretty widely known to be a low crime area. It's the place where many in Orange County flee to for better schools (some of the best public schools in FL actually) and to escape Orlando crime. The lone exception is Sanford...there are many many places in Sanford where you do not want to be, ever, especially at night. It's not all bad mind you, but it is far and away the highest crime city in the county with the most poverty, worst schools, etc.

Hmm... seems like there are too many things missing from this article to be able to make any sort of decision or form an opinion on it.

Have they released the 911 tape yet?
I know the dispatcher told him to stay in his car but for some reason he got out and confronted the kid... then shot him in "Self defense"... cause that drink and candy he had musta been dangerous.
