I use public transportation every day. Works great. Way better than trying to drive into SF.

When I say need I mean need. I know a lot of people who need a job. They also need a way to get to a job, but they can't afford car. How are they supposed to get around?
They need public transportation.

In high population areas grocery shopping with a car sucks ass. Traffic, parking, gas, paying for parking... Eff that.
Why are certain segments of our society so dead set on preventing progress for everyone else???

And that has what to do with public transportation? As said above, it can be run for profit, nobody has to pay for it unless they're using it.

Mass public transportation in cities is reasonable. Several cities have reasonable transportation - NYC and DC for example. However, the size of the US makes mass public transportation for movement through the country prohibitive. Regardless, no subsidies either ... make a system viable on its own or hang it up!
