I think people deeply underestimate what a huge problem this day-night issue is if you're trying to design an energy system involving solar technology that's more than just a hobby. You know the sun shines during the day, and people turn their air conditioners on during the day, so you can catch some of that peaking load, particularly if you get enough subsidies. It's cute you know, it's nice. But the economics are so, so far from making sense.… And so unfortunately you get technologies that, no matter how much of them you buy, there's no path to being economical.

You know, the sun shines during the day, and people turn their air conditioners on during the day, so you can catch some of that peaking load, particularly if you get enough subsidies. It’s cute, you know, it’s nice. But the economics are so, so far from making sense. And yet that’s where subsidies are going now. We’re putting 90 percent of the subsidies in deployment—this is true in Europe and the United States—not in R&D. And so unfortunately you get technologies that, no matter how much of them you buy, there’s no path to being economical. You need fundamental breakthroughs, which come more out of basic research.

You've already said enough stupid things in this thread, you might not want to exacerbate it.
BTW - I don't own a car, public transportation works just fine. But i can have one if i want to, no one is stopping me. Maybe that will help you understand need from want a little better.

Right, that is why the collectivists constantly scream and yell for massive public funding of public transportation instead of going to a user pays system. BTW, I like public transportation, just not run by government and unions. But I don't like it enough to be forced into using it which is why I bought a motorcycle and started riding it last month.
I live in NYC, you would think that in NYC the trains would actually run on time and have a high up time rate. Think again and go read up on the L line or the 7 line. I used the MTA Trip planner everyday to stay on top of service changes and scheduling issues. It just became too much aggravation and wasted time, hence why I got a bike and started riding during the WINTER.

I'm thinking we're getting trolled. Seriously, who makes it to semi-adulthood without understanding the difference between need and want?

To put this into perspective I walk the walk. We have one car. When I retired I gave my car to brother-in-law. We make is so we only go into town when we both ave something important to do. I ride my bike everywhere else. It was 86 degrees (F) today and we did not turn on the air. Open windows was just fine.
Our family uses the bus whenever we can. My nephew is using the bus to go to work with a 3/4 mile walk their and back. I can bet that 90% of the posters here would never cut their usage without being forced to. They have so little self control that you want the government to force them to change. We can lower our usage and we should. We should because we are using a limited resource. It will have to last until we find something better.
Giving Obama's friends money to make something we know will not work will not help anyone but Obama and his friends; at our expense. You put money into R&D, which is not what Obama is doing. It is time for liberals to wakeup.

There are three kind of liberals;
Stupid, ignorant or evil
The result is always evil but the intent is not always evil. Not that it makes much difference in the long run.

Yeah i live in NYC too, and there's a reason why all the private bus lines went out of business. Hint: The MTA did it better. Triboro, Steinway, NY Bus Service, Green Lines, service was awful on all of them. I take the 7 all the time, and the service is pretty damn good considering how many thousands and thousands of people take it every day. And my LIRR route has a 95% on time rating. You're probably just a person who bitches all the time about the slightest delay because you want it to fail.
