The only rules I'd like to see are:

1. If tele goes, his stupid icon doesn't.

2. Quick editing of racist bullshit.

3. A record somewhere of what the rules are so people aren't banned arbitrarily over personal grudges or because they owned a mod in some debate.

I think another way to approach it would be a "global" report thread (would show up at the top of every sub forum) and then if a user is banned it will also be noted there.

Similar to something we have here now, that way there is transparency.

That's how I'd do it anyways.

No, reporting, as much as people hate it, needs to be anonymous in order for there to be effective community moderation. Just have few rules so you have to be a retard to get banned. Ban reasons should be public though.

Oh yeah, and limit the physical dimensions that people's icons take up. I hate private boards where people's icons are these giant images, it makes those boards a pain in the ass to read.

Transparency is definitely important. I don't know if names should be attached to reports. Some faggot like Simon could just spam that shit all day, but at the same time if he were anonymous he wouldn't be exposed for the faggot that he is.

So what about it? If the board has only like 3 rules, then why do you care if they are reported anonymously? Simon is a faggot on these boards because there are lots of rules. The new board is looking to have very few, and you need some otherwise the board will just be worthless. They'll need to be enforced, and you will require public support in order to enforce them properly. You won't get that if you have everyone having to weigh whether or not it is worth it to have people talking shit about it every time they make a post. On this board, I've never really had a problem with reporting things in and of themselves, it's just what they report that bothered me. In a board with less rules, I will no longer have that problem.
