imo allow copy normal servers chars (ywain and archived) into mordred this maybe resurrect the server... a bit, i would give it a try for sure. Well, you can say people had an advantage leveling the chars in the normal server, but, who cares? server is almost dead, or best said, dead.

Mordred was destroyed by NF and instant ports

Instant ports certainly contributed and have no place on Mordred. Actually they have to no place on any server if you ask me, but that's just me.

The old days when you had to horse around were awesome and totally added to immersion. Moving from one end of the world to the other was something to be undertaken, not done in 10 seconds.

When Shadowclan ruled down by GNA if you had business down there you had to pay them a tax to bypass or hang out on their turf, there was no porting around it or past it.

I would like to say today's generation of gamers don't have the patience for the old ways and are doomed to crappy games because of it, but I think most of the DAoC players still around have been around quite a while so I don't know if that applies to DAoC.

I can't remember how we actually came to be a port everywhere instantly and bypass the majority of the content game, did we ask for it or did Mythic just shove it down our throats for our own good?

Either way it's bad for the community and perhaps fatal for a server like Mordred.

Come to think of it I really can't even remember the last time I rode a horse route...

Edit to add - To me an MMORPG was always about a virtual WORLD you were in, Traveling around the countryside in a world of monsters, magic, and swords shouldn't be super duper easy peasy. The careless get killed. Adventures happen along the way. Danger can and often is around every turn. traveling in numbers for safety was wise and even then not a guarantee that the destination would be reached by everyone in the party. In this respect Mordred was a great world to me. Even on a horse route there were "bandits", "brigands", "enemies", or whatever you wanted to call them laying in wait to kill you. Yes it was harsh on the careless and unprepared but for those who like a challenge and an adrenaline rush it was totally awesome. It is a shame that a combination of griefers and incompetent players gave it such a bad name and then Mythic's lack of support finished it off because there is no true Mordred type experience anywhere in gaming that I know of atm so many of us just don't have a real home and haven't for a long time and it doesn't look like we will for a long time if ever again.

It is a shame that Mythic didn't implement a few simple rules to reduce griefing and fine tune the rule set and that the community as a whole couldn't come together to make it a true sandbox game world. The most popular areas were like Quake, just craziness anything goes kill everything in sight and unfortunately those are the areas that the new players ended up in first. Most never got past them to see the true community and depth in the game once you pass the Cotswolds and the Magmells...

Mordred was hands down the most fun I ever had with my pants on

I'd go back in a heartbeat if the population revived, which it won't, more's the pity.

If two or three mechanics had been changed back when they became a problem it could have gone on to be one of the greats.

Alas Mythic, being mythic, was unable to muster that last .001% of insight and effort required to iron out the rough edges...

As for the population..yeah it attracted the exploiters, thieves, whores, scammers etc...FOR THAT TIME.

A time before every morally bankrupt pre-pubescent sexually frustrated geek had a nuclear powered desktop.

The meanest, lowdownest, backstabbinest, most blackhearted, rottenest, no good scoundrel to ever show his face on Mordred would be appalled at what is standard and completely accepted behaviour on Ywain today where exploiting, scamming, and flat out stealing are everyday occurances.

At least on Mordred there was accountability...if you talked the talk you better be able to walk the walk.

If you screwed someone over he and his homies might be waitin' for you with some pipes just outside of town to settle up.

Anyone remember the water luri's down by GNA? (might have been on Andred, I started out there till it went tits up). Even the Shadowclan mob that hung out down there and taxed everyone didn't go in the water. I think their leader was an elf named Footfunk or something. Vicious horrid little mf'rs and they OWNED that lake lol. Funny the random things you remember.

Pryden keep/bridge area was such a blast too.

Bandits waiting to gank at every bridge, since you actually had to horse across the world to get to where you wanted to go. Not this lazy ass instant gratification porting everywhere like the kiddies have it now. Traveling was actually traveling and best done in groups.

Guilds were really guilds, you stuck together and fought together like all the time, you had to.

Man that was so much fun.

Bleh thanks OP, you just made me realize how crappy a game DAoC is now compared to back then

edit to add - I remember one time on my healer I had to sneak halfway across hib to join a couple trolls to xp, took like thirty mins of sneaking and when I finally made it and thought I was safe the bastards I was going to join ganked me. Apparently they were inviting people to come join them and when they arrived just whack them. So they just sat there and leveled up on prey that came to them. Genius really, when you think about it. The bastards.

Oh and mobs of greys or greens banding together and dragging purples down in revolt..hehe good times, good times

So taking 30 min to get to a group just to get ganked by them was a good time for you yet you cry about getting ganked in NF ?

That was before I made friends and joined a guild, and I didn't just sit down and log out right after wards never to return feeling butthurt. I learned and pressed on.

And I don't cry about getting ganked in NF. Yes I think the combination of a scout, hunting in his own keep, with a DI bot safely tucked away in the CK is the pinnacle of gayness, but that's just me .

Though it does bring up another point about Mordred. You could almost always kill a persons bot because they had nowhere to hide, which essentially solved the bot problem. Not completely but to a great extent.

The reason why most people didn't like it was because they didn't like the all out gank fest. That's not a flawed argument, that's a simple fact. You can say they couldn't hack it, weren't prepared, didn't use commmon sense, whatever, and it might even be true. The bottom line is, most people did not enjoy the experience there, and thus you got no new fresh blood. Why is that? The only answer can be "because the existing players made it not fun". This is born out by the pathetic attempt by the perpetrators of this behavior to pawn off the blame on other things. If you guys weren't jackasses, you might have had a better population survive the inevitable population drop of an ancient game.

Well said... it's funny how Mordred players defend their playstyle, yet cry about zergs on Ywain, which is just the same gank and spank but on a much larger scale... bottom line is nobody likes dying without having a tiny tiny chance to win the fight.

At the least, mythic could do char COPY'S from ywain to mordred.

The best imo, would be a new server, pre toa and no porting during combat

If they allowed character copies to Mordred - I would do it.
