No AoM ring charge up.. but 472 after resists is still quite decent for a stealth caster imho (since I have CTR, it nips off another 16, giving the 456 from the screenie). Probably a crit, but can't tell since I ran out of range before he could cast another one.

My chanter's baseline nuke only hits people for 400+ when their resists are reduced to zero from the debuff. Based on the delves described in this thread and the damage being done... something is obviously wrong.

The delves mentioned above are too low iirc, the real delves are 125

Awsten's wisdom.
How does 10% magic damage and 10% spell pierce add up to 23% more damage in poisons?
Hey genius, how about this, Point blank is a 3 sec spell and so is the nightshade nuke.

That's still "just" a bit over 300 dmg wit ha good crit though.
The problem is that they get dex as their acuity stat, meaning they generally have way more acu than any other caster in the game.

Do remember the SPD of the spell is 3.0, rather slow by nuker standards. Even fully maxed out on cast-speed you can't get it to a 1.1s spell, I tried it on my Luri with AugDEX5, +6DEX Myth, and all starter points into DEX and it didn't hit the break-point to 1.1s despite having like 445DEX IIRC (and 10% SPD obviously).
All those RPs that guy spent on MoM & WP are not doing much good in melee, and are quite useless during melee vs. other assassins. (It's not like you're seeing any Infs or SBs spending points on them, right? Viper is a much better buy for poisons. So basically the guy i sheavily focused on nuking, and pretty much only his insta DD benefits from this stuff in melee.)
There are quite major trade-offs for doing this, or you'd see far more nuker NSs out there (not NSs nuking, but NUKER NS!)...which you simply don't, and there is a good reason for that.
When you don't spend several RRs worth of RPs on it, and run a reasonably melee-oriented template, then you can at best call that nuke "neat." It's a tool in their toolbox, no doubt, and it's not anemic anymore as it was in the past. It actually hurts a little.
And as with any other class/ability there is that 1% of players, usually very high RRs, who take it to an extreme...probably just to elicit VN cries about it.

if you are running 26% cold resist and some cl resists any hit above 400 is a crit
i have some first hand experience in this area
Also the previous poster is right on with his analysis.. Castershades are very weak if they find themselves in a melee fight.. The best they can do usually is try to land stun or put disease/snare and hope the enemy doesn't snare you as you try to create distance

My shade is running a 10% pierce/8 damage template and she is by no means weak in melee, for the simple fact that those bonuses give me better posion damage than shades without spell pierce/damage.
With weapons as they are in the game now, you can easily cap melee/style damage as a dual wielder, the only 'sacrifice' I made for my template was to give up SoM, but I was used to running without SoM since the ML10 patch.
'Castershade' is a misnomer, any shade with half a clue will run spell pierce and possibly damage for the simple fact they help so much with our best DPS source, our posions, ONTOP of boosting our nuke damage.
Spell pierce is also gaining popularity with infs/SBs, and they don't get the benefit of it applying to nukes.
These are not 'sacrfices' they are opportunities to increase our damage thanks to the sheer number of high util items in the game these days, that allow us to easily cap melee bonuses that were difficult to cap in the past.

Template is only 25% of the castershade.. The people who are truly castershades also spend all their points non-melee ras

25%
That's a very specific number, can you give me a breakdown on that given that the bulk of magic damage comes from the template and not the RA's?
