I'm not a fan of WoW, but if Mythic/EA cared atleast half as much as Blizzard does, DAOC never would have fallen like it has.

You must have missed the memo... EA doesn't care nor ever has.

Yes its Mythic/EA's fault....they can make a game, but can't manage it for shit.

EA had nothing to do with "making" DAoC.

The only reason WoW is the #1 P2P MMO on the market is because Blizzard is a great company.

Not completely true, while Blizzard is a great game company they were able to make a popular MMO by using the Warcraft,Starcraft and Diablo popularity to give it a huge boost along with extreme commercialization, newness (at the time it was created) mix a few thousand cubic tons of Koreans/asians in the mix along with those housewives that can't wrap their heads around anything more complex than mob killing all day and you got a successful by shear numbers MMO.

You will notice stupid people flock to things that are easy to understand because well... they are stupid and there are a lot of stupid people and the Asians will flock to the same to make money off the stupid people.

For instance say your looking for a top notch quality item will you go to wal-mart or a specialty store for that specific item?

Well Wal-mart has a lot of customers because it's simplistic, convenient and stupid people can understand it but I bet you wouldn't find anything there that is of "top quality" however that doesn't change the outcome of the huge number of customers though.

In other words there are just a lot of stupid people in this world today~

I love all the threads over the years that say "Daoc is such a wonderful game... But you know what would be great? If it were totally different!"

Many of us would love to see a modern MMO with a DAOC style Realm versus Realm system. However it probably won't come from DAOC.

I was watching a conference from the Guild Wars developers the other day and they were talking about all these good ideas they had and received to improve the aging game. But they decided to not impliment these big changes to the game because it would likely seriously upset the existing loyal player base.

Besides the lack of resources Mythic has, I suspect they also probably don't want to rock the boat with radical changes. Mythic has attempted some big changes to modernize the game and it has lead to some ugly backlashes from the players and some of those changes even had to be rolled back. Granted, I don't think they were really implemented well, but the player base can be really resistant to too much change. Even overhauling the realm abilities has become a sore point for some players.

Modern MMO's suck.

Rift (the new one) is horrible.

I don't want any of the features you describe. Why not just go play WoW if that's what you want? Why immigrate and then demand the culture change to what you left?

What would be nice is a new game with all the OLD DAoC features...ahhhh that would be nice.

F new mmo's, f the new generation of gamers, and f you!

Have a nice day

GW2 was my hope for a 3-way war in a modern MMO but given that world pvp was an afterthought that has since been given a bit more attention I don't expect great things. Initially world pvp in GW2 was said only to exist as a casual training ground for new players to learn the basics of game mechanics or for other players to learn new classes and/or abilities before stepping into arena combat which would be the core of the game. Then all of the sudden they released a video and other info making it sound like the entire game was developed around world pvp and instanced event-based pve while having little to nothing to do with arena combat at all.

Given that the game will have literally identical realms on all three sides of the 3-way war, a very small number of classes and races and, if GW1 was any indicator, very simple setups with only 8 or so abilities available to a character at once it does not sound like it daoc at all.

And for those of you that never tried GW1 yes.. no kidding... you only had 8 abilities available to you at any given time. When you were outside of arena you could respec and choose from a vast number of abilities to fill in some of those 8 and others were part of your class. This was an extremely interesing system for arena combat where you literally had to choose the abilities of your entire team to work together as if it were a single entity if you wanted to succeed. But... If you were to throw this system into a world-pvp-based or RvR(vR) game I belive it would more closely resemble the Lion's Den rahter than New or Old Frontiers. We shal see.

P.S. If I have any of my facts wrong about GW1 its been a long time since I played and I welcome any corrections.

like in every other MMO on the market

Problem is that every other MMO on the market sucks, at least for the people that like DAoC.

The combat system is what makes DAoC great, you actually have to think instead of just spamming spells or playing whack-a-mole. Everything else is the sign of an 'ancient' game, some upgrades would be nice but it hardly is going to make the game. You'll never get the hordes of sheep that play "every other MMO on the market" to play DAoC for long because even as easy as the game is now PvEwise they'd still bitch and complain things are too hard and once they get to any kind of PvP and get annihilated by vetrans they'll close shop and go back to the idiot games "like every other MMO on the market".
