Facts are facts. Pick anytime after WoW was launched and the population numbers have been dropping, and dropping, and dropping. . . .
Also, there are free DAoC servers out there and those free servers are not flooded with players. It is not just the price that is keeping players away. The game has been twisted into a psychotic mishmash that most MMO players just do not find fun.
I have said this on many threads now, look at the WoW forums and count the number of angry posts, and remember that WoW has over 10 million subs. Then compare that to the number of angry DAoC posts found on the VN boards back when DAoC had 250K subs. The number of angry posts is about the same for both games.
Back when DAoC had 250K subs, based on percentages, DAoC had about 40 times the number of angry posts as WoW.
Games should be fun; they should not something that has a red-faced player periodically pulling their hair out and yelling at the computer screen because of unfixed game problems. Games should be fun, they should not something that motivates players into spending late nights crafting voodoo chants to damn Mythic.
Unfortunately DAoC/Mythic has always had far too much of the PITA factor.
The only way to save DAoC is to untwist it, fix it, remove the stupid OP garbage that Mythic put in the game in an attempt to sell Xpacs, fix the PvE, fix the questing, fix the drops, fix the downtime, fix the UI, fix etc. . . . . .
Lowering the price of DAoC will not save the game. Even a free PITA is still a PITA.
