Oh I wholeheartedly agree that if they would give us a pre ToA/NF server they would get a huge influx of returning players, which is probably the exact reason why you wont see it happen.
Remember Mythic is dead and gone, relegated to the same dev process as say UO.
So I dont see Bioware wasting any energy and resources on a dead game while they are getting ready to crank out their new MMO.
Granted it doesnt make any sense to me, The Daoc playerbase and the SWG playerbase are miles apart, but I am sure they see it as competition non the less and could cost them a couple hundred thousands dollars of potential box sales.
Trust me more then any other game out there I would so love to be proved wrong on this.

DAoC 2 will be the only thing. This game was mastered years ago. Definition of insanity...

The thing is that the brains are all gone. Only halfwits remain, and they would bollux it up. Mythic seconds, not designed to affect rvr, ghost accounts, and other layers of stupidity and deception are their skills. The current team couldn't hold itself back from "improving" the game until they wreck it again.

Only thing that would bring me back is new classic server but that will never happen.
Otherwise EA can s*** my b**** because I am having blast on free daoc server which population peaks at 900 WITHOUT BUFF BOTS, without clusters, without TOA, without new classes and other shit that is on official servers.

I'd love a new classic server, but right now I'd settle for being able to bind abilities to alt+button or shift+button and not have the game completely stop my movement when I use those hotkeys while moving forward with the w key. Only freaking game that does this.
Try it out sometime...
bind something to shift+g and alt+g
move forward with the w key
hit shift+g or alt+g
watch your character stop
Not that great when you're trying to run through somebody in a melee fight...

A time machine dialed in to 2001 because you can't turn back the clock.
Wouldn't matter how they made DAoC2 - 10 perfectly balanced realms, Crysis like graphics, 900 button do everything one man group classes with massive boobies and swords and a Genie that pops out of the screen to suck your dick. Won't matter - it will be crap, Dev forums filled full of Nerf crying jerk offs demanding more WOW features, riveting conversations of 12 year old potty mouths in vent, non existent community and everyone quitting because it took 3 hours to hit cap - like every other next big thing MMO the last 5 years.

Make the game more about RvR, and less about PvP.

Here are a few off the top of my head.
Updated engine, (but with caution!!!!! DAOC characters unlike ANY OTHER MMO I have found, are for some reason the easiest for me to identify individuals on the battle field. Dunno if its the Dye or what? Also the movement and feel of the characters I just *like* over other MMOs which feel too fast and jerky. Shield blocks and parries are more "felt" and individual attacks/swings are seen and felt with impact.. I just don't get the same connection with other MMOs where it feels more arcade like. Oh and how casting speed affects animation is awesome!! Way better than a ridiculous casting bar. I think its the instant feedback of the character to your actions. You press cast and it casts and you wait however long.. But in most MMOs now, its a queue system, you always queue up the next action because you have a stupid global cool-down and a little progress bar for your actions. This I feel detaches you from your character.
the engine doesnt realy need updating... its running the same engine as alot of newer MMO's ... they need to update alot of the textures for ground/buildings and such.. Character models i think are awesome in daoc already.
but i completely agree on the character movement, and how DAoC has always made it seem like the character is an extension of you... and it does what you want it to...
other MMO's i often hit buttons and wait for the action to start...
DAoC is like your controling the character most others its like your sending requests to someone else to do something for you...
Your right, I believe they started off with "NetImmerse" engine which turned into GameBryo and they did at some point (Catacombs?) Update the engine. But I think they have left off a ton of things "shaders" lighting effects ect due to old style models or maybe to maintain compatibility with the old version of the engine. Of course it may require a LOT of work to revamp the models out of this weird nif format. Oh all the games and MMOs out there, I really like the graphics and textures and models in DAOC. It may not have all the eye candy effects of modern games, but their models and textures have a much better feel. A fun little kobold I used to run with (she is a game designer with a good eye) mentioned its because they didn't over saturate the colors in DAOC like most games. Over-saturation tends to make it look cartoony (WOW is a perfect example)
