There have been. But they have failed. MMOs don't work with pure PvP in mind.

So have 8348763284763278468327 pve related games (failed, that is)... in other words... doesn't mean a thing...

The answer for me(though account is active, i haven't played much in 6months), is more about old friends coming back to the game, which they aren't.
Other than that in my case it's not so much about adding or removing things as it is about variety.

While i never liked 10mn timers on RAs such as moc, or believe that mythirians screwed the game, i don't think removing them would be any good. Same for OF or other things.

My last rvr team quit because of the sclerosed gameplay on hib.
Whereas we were more or less at the top of the agramon food chain at the time(last fall then january-only, euro prime time), we were literally fed up: when we fought potent enemy groups we had to be on edge for a full 5 minutes at least, no mistakes allowed for us while pet skeletons and elementals were swarming us, our 2 mages (RR12 menty and RR10 mana eld) just killing dozens of pets our opponents were spawning back up rapidly. Our tanks (RR8 champ, RR11 BM) just swinging in the wind most of the time(zo'arkat, lag exploits, 6s pbt+d/q debuff+haste debuff, RR5s, PS, you name it).

And when we chose frontiers roaming, there wasn't enough dps to kill weaker groups fast because we had to have a warden(me RR11, with most RAs in melee) for the spirit resist lest mid/alb caster groups had it too easy on our tank duo, a problem our opponents on agramon didn't have. We got zerged often for this lack.

We pondered over changing our setup many times, but there wasn't any alternative between more caster power and polyvalence. We could've changed realm, but being on hib was better since there were so few hibs.

What i want is to be able to change group mechanic/classes on hib without nerfing ourselves heavily, having alb/hib tanks actually do damage rather than fumbling/swinging at pbt and serving as enemy casters' sandbag, our mages nuking something else than pets... Even completely deleting the warden class and putting its 2 key spells elsewhere(pbt/resists)would free hibernia setups!

Bring back a classic server instead of a glass farming one. Loved rvr on classic when they came out.

1. Make PVE and story important again. MMOs need people who love PVE so the PVE has to be top notch. That would probably involve going back to pre-SI ruleset and keeping the improved questing the game has now. No task dungeons and solo instances. The game needs to be about playing together. If you want to solo quest that option should also be available.

2. Make PVP important to providing the best PVE rewards. Then there is a reason to PVP. Remember when level 20ish toons would head out to the frontier because the XP was amazing? We need more of that. Remember when Darkness Falls had the best PVE gear in the game? We need more of that.

3. Mailbox. Seriously.

4. One faction per server. Make a choice. No more hopping on whatever faction is winning.

5. And I am going to be hated for this: Get rid of RAs and RPs. PvP should be incentivised by PVE rewards. That's how you keep people doing it. Its the way you make PvP active. RAs have only hurt the game. Yes some of the RA abilities are needed but they should be class abilities rather than earned through PvP. If you must have RPs make it some sort of title system or chest pounding award that is tracked on the herald or something.

Edit:

6. No buff bots obviously. Not sure how I forgot this one.

Totally and completely correct, though I would add many things.

As for #5, most that love the dieing game and those that love what is killing the game, they will never be able to comprehend how RAs damaged the game. With all the explanations that have been posted on the boards over the years and all the examples that have been given over the years, they still do not get it. Chances are they never will get it.

It is the same for those who think there is still too much PvE in the game. They will never get it. They will never comprehend why the game is dieing.

Along with your 6 points I would add the following (note: some of the following would need the creation of DAoC2 or origin) :

1. The UI needs updating. The standard UI needs more of the things that are available in custom UIs. Also, there needs to be fewer /commands. More /commands need to be controlled by a UI (example: removing money from a CM needs a UI, etc. . . .)

2. The game controls need to be standardized to what most players would find in the typical MMO. The keyboard controls need a bit more flexibility and need a better UI/control for changing the keyboard settings. Players need the ability to shift between different saved keyboard customizations.

3. When poison is applied to a weapon the icon for the weapon needs to change color and when the poison is used the weapon icon needs to change back to normal, showing that the weapon does not have poison on it.

4. CC needs to be reduced. The game should not be bash the statue, it should be a rolling brawl. When 2-4 of my friends are gathering around a frozen player(s) to execute them it is not really much fun. Just as the game is not much fun when one is the statue. Most players do not mind dieing so much when they can at least inflict some damage first.

5. Less emphasis needs to be on timers.

6. The Min/Max needs to be dramatically reduced (getting rid of RAs will help but gear and abilities also needs to be adjusted). Players will spend huge plat and huge amounts of time to squeak one little extra point into a template. Players do not need huge bonuses attached to new gear to get the player excited about purchasing an expansion pack. The only thing huge bonuses/improvements/gear-upgrades/abilities/etc… do/does to a game is cause imbalance and Min/Max problems.

7. In old frontiers there were only 27 things to fight over and with NF there are 111 things to fight over. This change was stupid and/or not well thought out. Mythic needs to get rid of most of the towers.

8. 2 OF zones from each realm need to be brought back.

9. The OF relic keeps need to be brought back.

10. Control of DF needs to be important once again.

11. DF needs to be important once again.

12. Players log in to play, not sit waiting for bars to regen. Regen needs to be re-engineered.

13. Players need flying mounts for quicker travel.

14. There needs to be some type of porting available to more players, so that players can easily gather together for group events.

15. With the elimination of Bots, the need for pots would also need to be dramatically reduced.

16. Crafting needs to always have a place. Some players live for crafting. For the game to be alive and vibrant the game needs to accommodate those players that love to craft. Patches and expansions should never kill a crafting profession.

17. PLing needs to be eliminated.

18. PL farming for easy/quick/huge Plat needs to be eliminated.

19. Typical leveling to 50 needs to take 20 to 25 days /played.

20. LFG needs to be reworked so that it is actually useful.

21. LFQH (looking for quest help) UI needs to be created. Where players that need a group to finish a quest can flag the quest and when sufficient players have flagged the quest the players are given the option to join together in a group and then be ported to a bind stone that is nearest to the location of the quest.

22. Crafting tables need to be removed from Housing.

23. Special guild housing needs to be made available in the towns outside of the capital cities and those guild plots should be available only to guilds that accomplish specific RvR goals.

24. housing cost vs. utility needs to be more thoroughly re-engineered.

25. The Herald should always have the most updated information. Game guide/information parts of the Herald should be in the form of a Wiki where players contribute suggestions and the Knights review the submissions and Mythic has final approval. This would give all players a central place/wiki for game info, it would ensure the Herald guides had detailed and up-to-date info and the wiki aspect would reduce the work load necessary for Mythic people that were tasked with keeping the Herald updated.

26. Players that contribute significantly to the betterment of the game should be given free access for life. Many players, players that have significantly contributed to the game, have long ago departed. If those players had been given free access for life there is a huge chance those players would still be in the game and would still be contributing to the betterment of the game. Example of those who should get free access: Valmerwolf and other map makers, Derida and other UI makers, M.Jurkait (Charplan), Kirstena, and about 100 others.

27. Functional and healthy guilds are a very important to the longevity of an MMO. Mythic needs to provide more support for guilds and Mythic needs to be willing to intervene when some psychotic player decides to cause extensive damage to a guild (i.e. Empty a guild vault, etc. . . ). Guild leaders need more controls and monitoring tools for their guild. Guild vaults need to have a log.

28. Mythic needs to allow more guilds in each alliance and/or Mythic needs to allow two alliances to team together.

29. A PvP rule set server, with a much better rule set, needs to be created.

30. Mythic needs to allow home invasion but players need to be given an RvR flag that would remove that player from being attacked.

31. Pet pathing problems need to be fixed. Some problems from 8 years ago are still a problem today. It is just silly that these problems still exist.

32. Los problems need to be fixed. Again, some of these problems are from the early days of the game. It is lazy, rude, obnoxious, stupid, etc. . . .that these problems have not been addressed. And Mythic, don’t ask for specifics. Only someone that does not play the game would be unaware of most of the bugs in the game. It is not as if the bugs are hard to find.

33. Bring back the old archer. Mythic, if you have a hard time figuring out the old code then go back to school or hire someone with more experience.

34. Keep the old world gear/ROGs/gold/exp updated and current. Never let the new gear/abilities/characters of an Expansion pack make the old world areas obsolete.

35. Keep old quest drops/experience/gold updated and current. Never let the new gear/abilities/characters of an Expansion pack make the old quests obsolete.

36. Eliminate the death experience penalty. It is a stupid penalty. I can’t count the number of groups I have seen disband because some noob, or some inept player (the kind of player that needs an experienced group to teach them the ropes), would get the group killed so often that in a few moments an entire days work of experience would vanish. Very quickly the group would disband and a short time later each of the old group members would be leveling solo or with bot. In a game where grouping is supposed to be part of the way the game is played the death experience penalty is stupid and destructive to groups.

There are probably another 30 or so things that would need to be addressed but the above list is a good start.

Updated or new game engine with revamped UI.

My concerns are more skin deep at the moment.

update old PVE encounters, make PVE harder again...

WoW is => way, Aion <= way, Rift ^ way, LOTRO v way, AoC up / there, ... in other words.. if you want PvE, more than enough options around.. now if you want decent PvP, you can only come this way, which is daoc.

Mythic should spend time on what this game does best... not trying to play pve catchup against impossible odds.

wow, aion, rift, lotro, aoc are all crap... and only 1 of those has even halfway decent PVE the rest are crap pve and none of them have anything close to a decent PVP side...

EQ2 has great PVE, but pretty much non-existant PVP...

i play EvE these days because its difrent, and i can play it casualy when i dont have time... and it has a mix of pve and pvp content...

DAoC has always been one of the best MMO's but i have done everything in DAoC thousand of times over, almost 150 characters level 50 between normal servers, gaheris, and mordred ... the same old same old day in and day out gets boring realy fast and DAoC has gone stagnant it needs new pve content to revitalize player interest...

Here are a few off the top of my head.

Realm Invasion server (put those inter-realm towers and keeps to use!)

Updated UI

Updated controls, (funny enough, I used to try and make controls more DAOC like, but after being away for a while, I've become much more used too and like the modern mmo controls)

Updated engine, (but with caution!!!!! DAOC characters unlike ANY OTHER MMO I have found, are for some reason the easiest for me to identify individuals on the battle field. Dunno if its the Dye or what? Also the movement and feel of the characters I just *like* over other MMOs which feel too fast and jerky. Shield blocks and parries are more "felt" and individual attacks/swings are seen and felt with impact.. I just don't get the same connection with other MMOs where it feels more arcade like. Oh and how casting speed affects animation is awesome!! Way better than a ridiculous casting bar. I think its the instant feedback of the character to your actions. You press cast and it casts and you wait however long.. But in most MMOs now, its a queue system, you always queue up the next action because you have a stupid global cool-down and a little progress bar for your actions. This I feel detaches you from your character.

LAAAAG.!!!!!!!!!! I started playing DAOC back on a 768K DSL line in 2002 when we had 2,000+ people in three day long relic sieges and now I have a 7mbit DSL connection and have never EVER seen ghosting in rvr THIS bad!! 10 people on my screen can ghost all over the effing place. I know this is probably all a result of clustering since that seems like when ghosting and rubber-banding got really bad... So maybe a SINGLE new server would solve this?

I'm not going to gripe about class balance even though my warlock has been.. well its dead Jim.. and my Thane... lol.. Otherwise though, its not Class balance that keeps me away.

OHH! One last thing... I HATE instances!! Yes.. Thats right.. Instances BREAK UP COMMUNITIES!. Or prevent them from forming. in 2002 you HAD TO GROUP to do quests, to gain a level or two a night. Solo was tough mkay! Instances just let you and your buff bot disappear off the map. But I fondly remember just beating stuff up in dungeons being my typical anti-social self,(Nisse's, Varulvhamn, ect) and hearing a /yell every once in a while and saving some dude (or being saved by someone).. Who turns out to be way cool and invites me to hang with his group, or guild and hey new friendships are born... I miss that. MMOs now allow people to go through the world in single player mode.. And I think unknown to a lot of people, its why you just don't connect with the MMO as much anymore.

the engine doesnt realy need updating... its running the same engine as alot of newer MMO's ... they need to update alot of the textures for ground/buildings and such.. Character models i think are awesome in daoc already.

but i completely agree on the character movement, and how DAoC has always made it seem like the character is an extension of you... and it does what you want it to...

other MMO's i often hit buttons and wait for the action to start...

DAoC is like your controling the character most others its like your sending requests to someone else to do something for you...
