When you first started Dark Age of Camelot:

1. which realm did you start in?
2. what were your thoughts on the trivial things in you surroundings at the time?
3. did you ever switch to another ream? for good or temporary for trial?
4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
6. what was your first pvp experience like?
7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?

my answeres:

1. i started in hib.
2. it was my first mmorpg,i thought it was great you could actually talk to people that were fighting beside you to kill monsters.
all the abbreviations were crazy, i didnt understand any lingo. the 1st powerlevel i got was awesome and at the curmudgeon farm(i think its called that)
at the time i didnt know that asking for a PL was rude so i found out the hard way.
3. i switched to albion to see what the arthurian side was like.and i stayed there.
4. i really liked the look and feel of all the alb classes. i liked the landscape and i liked the layout of the land.
5. my first toon i rolled was a firbolg hero, i got to level 30ish and i had points EVERYwhere. i didnt know what was going on or what i was doing. he quickly got replaced with a NS, i got him to 44 before i left to albion.
6. my 1st pvp experience was in one of the BG's i forget which one. but it was me and my warden friend(back when wardens were ok to play) and we were roaming around to and from CK, cuz we were scared to go any further. the bg was dead ath the time cuz it was really late. so we decided to hang out at the ruins,(which at the time were right in front of HK and to the left of the path.
suddnly a big a$$ troll and a small blue guy came rushing up and killed us both on the spot. we were like wtf was that?
since that we got used to the ck seiges, the keep camping and the bridge ganks. was awesome.
my 1st 1v1 was a BS on a fire wizard in the bg. at the time thid was the only active bg, and when he just 2-bolted my groupmate , i BSed him. i about shat myself when he went down straight away. those were the days lol.

however my first REAL 1vs1 was at a milegate and albs just rolled a mid group and was moving on.
i was with my bard friend on my NS and they happen to roll her as well as everyone else.
as they were leaving, a friar was buffing himself and i PA'd him and went on to fight 1 on 1.

we were so close in that fight, it was awesome he was like 48 and i was 44, and i swear all i needed was my insta recharged and i would have had him. but it didnt pop in time.
and i lost. was still very memorable for me.

Anyway, i know alot of you might find this post dumb, but i like to talk about the old days of daoc, thats the only way we keep them alive is by the memories.

feel free to leave some replies, i look forward to reading some of your answers if you feel like taking the time.

if im wasting your time, i apologise.

thanks for reading.

1. which realm did you start in?
Mid

2. what were your thoughts on the trivial things in you surroundings at the time?
Already played EQ, so all my revelations were on how DAoC made quests more fun than EQ.

3. did you ever switch to another ream? for good or temporary for trial?
Yes, Hib. 75% I'm there.

4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
More cheerful terrain then Mid. Seriously.

5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
Of course.

6. what was your first pvp experience like?
Pissed in my pants. Mass confusion. Screaming. Spastic colon.

7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?
See #6. When I finally did win one I was a Warden and I had a 30 minute fight with a Minst. No adds!!!! But we did draw a big crowd. The poor guy died to paper-cuts!

dude, #7 is hilarious
my warden friend was this cat called downodeb.
we played ALOT together, then his wife dallerelle(sp) came on and played alot with us.
wou;d be nice to run into that guy again, but im like 95%sure he might have moved on.

anyway, yea...funny

yea, i tried mid a few times, but it never stuck because mid is such an ugly place with ugly classes
ive always enjoyed killing mids.
didnt enjoy killing hibs as much since they taught me how to play the game.

1. Albion on Gawaine. My first toon was an armsman. My first 50 was a smite cleric.
2. I thought the world looked incredible. Stonehenge blew me away the first time I saw it.
3. I rerolled Mid a few times but never really stuck there for long. I did reroll Hib in 2005(?) and mostly played that realm ever after.
4. I liked the 2 main Hib classes I played (druid, eld) better than their counterparts in the other realms.
5. Yeah I sort of screwed up on my armsman putting points in crush and shield then switching to polearm around level 6. But it worked out okay thanks to stupid double speccing and I abandoned that toon at level 41 anyway (although years later I did finally get him to 50 for the hell of it).
6 & 7. Sometime after level 20, I was hanging out in the frontiers just outside Castle Sauvage and ran into an afk Lurikeen who I destroyed. I was pleasantly shocked to get realm points for the kill and was hooked on RvR ever since.

1. which realm did you start in?
Hibernia

2. what were your thoughts on the trivial things in you surroundings at the time?
This was also my first MMO, so I was enthralled by the scenery mostly.

3. did you ever switch to another ream? for good or temporary for trial?
Tried out Mid and Alb a few times, but never liked them. Went over with a friend who liked both realms more than Hib, but Mid felt boring and depressing while playing Alb just made me feel dirty.

4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
RL friends and friends I made in game. Also, just the fact that I had a 50 toon and I hated leveling.

5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
First ever toon was a Champ on a friend's account. Only ever got it to level 10 before I started my own. My first toon on my own account was a Mana Ment. Just went straight Mana, but I'm sure I messed up somewhere.

6. what was your first pvp experience like?
Don't really remember. I'm sure it was getting run over or one-shot in Thid.

7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?
1v1s didn't typically end well for the caster in old DAoC.

Also, on a side note. I do remember rolling my first ever Champ and starting in Connla. My RL friend told me I needed to head north to get to where most of the other players were. Not knowing there was an in-game compass, I remember looking up at the sun and trying to figure out which way it was setting to try and find north. I'm pretty sure I ended up going the wrong way.

Mid, but came back to Hib
4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
Solum Contego, great guild, even greater bunch of ppl
5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
Nope, Keen Champ, went 50Valor 42s 39p
6. what was your first pvp experience like?
Still remember it, we got wtfowned by a group of mids as we were leaving the ruins in Thid. It was fun as hell. This was my first pvp game.
7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?
I dunno if it was my FIRST 1v1, but the first one I remember was against Kaze, an Inf from The Chosen, an Alb guild we ended up partnering with, we would attack each others keeps every Friday night. I won! Blocked every other swing he made.

When you first started Dark Age of Camelot:

1. which realm did you start in?
Midgard. I was working for a company called PureEdge Solutions here in Victoria, and would go outside for a smoke break from time to time. The area I went to was also frequented by the folks who worked for a branch of Disney on the bottom floor, and I got to talking to one of them about DAOC because I was complaining about how irritated I was with Everquest at the time. He told me there were a bunch of them that were going to play together in DAOC, so I pre-ordered it and my wife and I joined them. We played on Percival/Midgard, forming the guild Teeth of Garm, although I was later in other guilds as well (Seventh Legion, Rage of Fenris). Luckily for me they were also inclined to play Midgard because that would have been my choice no matter what. Later I learned a very good friend of mine was playing on the Alb side mind you

2. what were your thoughts on the trivial things in you surroundings at the time?
DAOC was like a breath of fresh air after playing Everquest. Pretty much everything that had bugged me about EQ was dealt with in DAOC. Even though the game wasn't complete when it started, it worked like a dream, everything was fresh and new, the UI wasn't irritating me, and I had an absolute gas. I loved the fact that much of the artwork, culture, storylines etc was drawn from real world mythology to some degree (well except the hib side where the design was apparently based on looking at a Lucky Charms cereal box).

3. did you ever switch to another ream? for good or temporary for trial?
I tried playing in Albion on Nimue and Hibernia on Guinevere, and despite meeting some great folks there, never got into either realm sufficient to get a character much past level 20 (keep in mind this took time, not like today). I did cancel my mid account and create a new account on Albion/Percival for a few months, mostly leveling up a Minstrel, but never really got into it. Midgard remains home and the finest of realms in my opinion.

4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
I have always been a fan of the Vikings, Norse culture etc. It was a natural fit.

5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
Nope but then I always research that sort of thing, talk to people about it etc. As well I was not able to play as much as many of my guildies so I could draw on their experience as they marched ahead of me up the levels. I played pretty regularly mind you - probably 3-4 hours a night - but some folks were playing a lot harder. Nowadays of course 3-4 hours a night is "casual" for most people

6. what was your first pvp experience like?
I was leveling up a character - my hunter I think - outside Vindsaul Faste, just hunting the mobs directly north of the gateway, when all of a sudden these new mobs showed up - it was a line of something called a "Hibernian Invader". It took me a few seconds to realize that these were actually enemy players.
To put this in perspective:
* There were no relics
* There were no realm points
* There were no horse routes
* Some dungeons didn't have any mobs or loot
* There were of course no battlefields or anything like that, this was Old Frontiers.
* High level players often ended up leveling on blues and greens if I recall. By the time I got there we mostly went to Raumarik and killed Horses to get from 45-50.

What had happened was a group of Hibs had powerleveled themselves up (ie playing a lot since no one was higher level) to levels 25-30 or so, then decided to attack Midgard. Somehow they managed to get across the mid frontiers to Vindsaul Faste. They slaughtered the mids who were leveling there and then fought with the few mids who had managed to get up to comparable levels. It was great to watch the fight but everyone was purple to me so I couldn't really participate much. Mind you everyone did, we all threw ourselves at them and died repeatedly. It was an eye opening experience and served to provide a great inspiration to level up higher. As it was it took me over a year to get to level 50 on my first toon. People have no idea how slow progress was at that time.

7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?
I don't remember but probably not. I mostly grouped up then mind you, as I had a good guild and was playing one of the weakest classes in Midgard (Spiritmaster - as far as I can tell there were only around 20-30 other people playing SM at the time).

1. which realm did you start in?
Hibernia

2. what were your thoughts on the trivial things in you surroundings at the time?
I loved the landscape and the artwork, and thought the size of the areas was just incredible.

3. did you ever switch to another ream? for good or temporary for trial?
I did roll a mid and alb but never got them beyond lvl 20. I didn't like the terrain of the other areas. All the snow in Mid was just depressing, and Albion was too hilly. So went back to Hib and stayed.

4. what attracted you to the realm that you stayed in?
The artwork in the area...all the trees (child of the 60's)

5. did you screw the spec up on your first toon?
Not only did I screw up the spec, I rolled an ELF blademaster. Who the hell rolls an ELF?

6. what was your first pvp experience like?
LOL, explosive and I had no idea what happened. I was only lvl 5, and went to the first spot the porter had listed...doh Crauchon Gorge? I lasted about 45 seconds.

7. How did it feel when you got in your 1st 1vs1? . did you win?
My first 1v1 was actually pretty graceful. I was farming grogans for pastry puffs and a mid warrior came over to me, bowed and kicked my...well killed me. My death was at least quick.
