The market always corrects itself. If someone buys out the market and sells at a price higher than it takes to make a profit others come in, produce the product and sell it cheaper than the one selling higher. If the one selling higher buys those products he is actually buying over what is the market price. Others will come in, make the product and sell it again and again until the one buying at higher prices gives up or goes broke.

Market always corrects itself. Unless of course the government gets involved.

Ty for pointing this out Morgash. I'm sure many people will get FMV for their sales now, after correcting for shadow prices.

I'm sure I have priced many items at shadow prices and lost several potential plat in profits, that I deserved, based on FMV.

If anyone thinks you are trying to trick people by pointing this out then they are mentally impaired.

I'm not reading the rest of that. i never specifically called you greedy. So guess what, any respect I had for you, is gone because you assume one thing that isn't even what it really is.

Lakobaath posted:

Semi, I have always respected you in terms of things you have said. But, you are taking up for these greedy idiots. You guys aren't seeing it as greedy because you guys are doing it yourselves . You are the ones that are selling the items for more than they are actually worth in game. I know plenty of people that cannot afford to go out and buy items all the time to get the new flashy updated templates. So you are feeding to the rich. This is greed. Your own richness.

Greed : a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed

You are trying to boost the price of items, so the people with more game currency will throw out more money your way. You are buying items at low prices, so you can turn around and sell it for more, to make a bigger profit out of it. That is greed and if you guys aren't intelligent enough to see it, then please, don't even reply any more to this, because you'll never see your greed.

If you did not intend to mean “you”, then the correct term is “they” or “he/she”.

What ever you intended to say; the above is what you actually typed. It is very clear that you decided I was defending the greedy because in your mind I was also the greedy.

Deny it all you want, you typed it and posted it.

Also, if you think the winner of Monopoly is a greedy person, I do not care about your respect. If you do not understand the reference to Monopoly, finish reading my other post.

Edit: IRL greed is totally different than wanting and trying to win at different parts of a GAME. Just as there is nothing wrong with a player winning at Monopoly, there is nothing wrong with a player winning in PvE, nothing wrong with a player winning at PvP, nothing wrong with a player winning at crafting and nothing wrong with a player winning at playing the CM/ME.

It is a game, not IRL.

Interesting post.

And good on you for doing this. People buying your stuff for 2-3x the under priced stuff is still better than paying over inflated prices which many never could afford if they wanted to, thus saving people money while you make a little profit yourself for noticing the dead CM's cause & effect on the market.

People crying about you jacking prices on the low items should QQ less and buy these items themselves (before someone who's really trying to rip people off do the same but resell at retardedly high rates). Oh wait, then they would have to take the time to search/buy/reprice.

There's a few lonely cynics in here who lack the bigger picture (cynics always think they have the answers when they really miss out on learning something). If you expect him to just give stuff away (how do you know he doesn't ever do that?) then why don't you give away your car, tv etc irl? Yeah...

people are pressured into buying items for templates to compete in RVR because without those items they wont get groups...

Non-sense; outside of weapons, and perhaps robes and cloaks, there is no way for potential group mates to see what equipment you have. DAoC does not allow you to examine another player's items and the group window does not list hit point values of your group members.

is counter productive to supporting your realm...

Realm pride was dead and buried in 2006. You are not supporting your realm by selling something cheaply, but you are doing the perspective buyer a favor. I personally don't give a damn about the random people who buy things off my consignment merchants. I did not go through the trouble and expense of buying a house and then placing 100 items on the merchant for the benefit of someone else.

If you have a house and consignment merchant, it's a safe bet that you do not maintain it to help other people. If this is the case, lower the price of every item on your CM to 1 copper so you can "help" your realm mates. And PM the lot number too so I can come buy it all to resell - you would even be helping me by doing this!

ArkadyTepes posted:

if you were truely interested in helping that person, you wouldnt let them sell it at the low price... you'd offer them more for it... but sense its not realy helping them that your after, but your own profit/greed... you dont offer to buy it from him at a higher value, you just buy it cheap then sell higher...

Why on earth would someone go through all of that trouble over something on a consignment merchant. You have no way of knowing if the house owner is still active, what guild he is in, or his alt characters' names. Even if you did find the person, there is a good chance that someone else would buy the item while you role played a white knight.

No. Realm pride has been dead since 2006. Co-operative realm pride? The same person you "helped" by selling an item 7p too cheap will turn around - like everyone else does - and log on their chars in the other two realms. Selling an item cheaply does not help your realm, but it does help individual players.

ArkadyTepes posted:

i understand wanting to sell items for a reasonable price to cover costs of things like rent, repairs and such...
but for those things you dont need alot of plats... because there cheap....

Here is a great idea: call your boss on Monday morning and tell him to cut your pay to federal minimum wage. Why? Well, you can get 4 roommates and live in an apartment in most ghetto part of your city, eat nothing but Ramen noodles, and wear garbage bags for clothes. You won't need a lot of money because these things are all cheap, but you might need to cancel your internet service and DAoC account.

Just think - the world's economy is really bad right now and all of this unnecessary pay you get could be used to employ more people. You should stop being so greedy and earn only the absolute minimum amount of money that is necessary to cover your basic living expenses so you can help your company and other people.

i helped out fellow realm mates as much as possible, i went out and helped in the defense of the realm when a call for help went out... even though i dont realy enjoy pvp... but i supported my realm....

one day i might play hib, another alb.... or mid... but when i was on one realm, i supported it 100%, i didnt share information from other realms, i didnt favor any of the players from the other realms...

realm pride isnt being exclusive to 1 realm, its supporting the realm your in when your in it... wich means helping all those "individual players" that make up the realm...

that is complete BS... RL has nothing to do with the game world... the game is about realm vs realm.... so greedy individualism is against the entire concept of realm versus realm...

in the real world, greedy individualism is how you succeed.
