Thane's don't suck people just spec/play them wrong. Allow me to enlighten you.

How to play a Thane and not suck at it in 7 easy steps.

By b0xy.

1) 50 stormcalling.
2) Zerg your way to RR5, get WoC 5 and ST 1.
3) Find enemy player.
4) ST, Doom Hammer, WoC 5, RR5, instant PBAoE, instant DD.
5) Collect RPs.
6) Trololol back to keep and afk for 10 mins.
7) Repeat steps 3-7.

I'm not saying thanes don't need any help, but they are certainly not as awful as some people make them out to be.

They require a certain kind of player and group to shine though.

This. Thanes are generally fine, and the only thing they could use is items that make templating easier. It is to the point where you basically have low melee, and go for pure casting stats (speed, pierce, damage, range) with some str and melee speed.

Imo the class is a piece of garbage when compared to the other hybrids.

Playing a thane is like getting a job at a construction site, and then showing up with a 50 pound rock to hammer nails with instead of a hammer/nail gun.

Some of daoc's classes have nail guns, some have hammers, the thane has a rock.

Ive always played low shield,I complained that shield was a crutch that stopped the class from getting fixed properly to start with back when we got our love.

Now with shield pretty much worthless, casting(oil) and melee(water) dont mix quite as well because the binding agent(shield) isnt working right anymore.

The class at this point will probably never see another adjustment again, so Id say if you are tired of hammering nails with a 50lb rock pick one of the other classes that get a hammer , nail gun,or just quit.

I love the metaphors Grish. Just awesome. Sooooo true too.

I've noticed that with mythic, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So, thanes, let's be obnoxiously squeaky!

This, you could say about any class in the game. Every class has a certain situation where they might be the best for the job, but that doesn't mean they don't need help.

Thane casting DPS is pretty good, the biggest problem with the class is survivability after shield nerf. If they remove the dual wield bonus against shields that stealthers got and keep it only for visible classes, thanes would be back where they should be IMO.

r0ach your argument is that they should essentially balance the game around solo fighting in Labyrinth. Well there should certainly be a little bit of balance between all sorts of tanks in hand to hand combat, as it generally reflects the tradeoff between defense and offense of different fighters. However, DAOC is supposed to be balanced around group and realm combat. Dual Wielders should have the improvement that they received, but removing this doesn't do anything good for Thanes except that now they can win more duels against low rr Mercenaries, which has nothing to do why Thanes are underplayed and underdesired in groups.

Take into account the delves of the casting times, the range of the spells, and the ability to frontload with instas, doomhammer, and rr5:

Granted he's the only particularly good thane to play this game...

Nope, my post is based on the fact that "hardcore 8v8'rs", you know, the people who won't leave the portal keep without having 8 people, 2 healers, a mezzer, and everyone in a vent, are probably only 5-10% of the playerbase. Balancing the game only by 8v8 would be stupid at best.
