If it is still the best game out, based on it being down to the last cluster and based on the size of the market (10+++million and rising) then DAoC must have some horrible implementation to only have the tiny population that it has (must be doing something wrong with so few people playing the best game out).

I don't understand why people don't get this yet.

DAOC is a great game, its just been mistreated horribly.

Isnt Farmville the best game since it has a retardedly high player base?

People seem to forget that DAoC is (or was) specifically designed to meet the needs of a very small player base (RvR). Ever stop and think "maybe they are happy with what the game turned out to be."
I think what they weren't expecting was the evolution of smaller scale RvR, when "8v8" entered into the mix. I believe that that was a beginning to the current state of the game. Guilds began hopping servers either due to lack of 8v8 competition, or that they sucked so bad they would move to other servers where "the grass was greener". Realm pride started to die off when the 8v8 started bitching at zergs for assjamming or whatever.
Clustering killed realm pride even further and should have been implemented differently. Cross realming got carried away at this point, and the "feel" of actual Realm vs. Realm officially died.
How many still have that feeling of disgust when they see an alb, mid or hib coming into clip range?

and this... is where most idiots like you... fail!

the game was not designed around RvR, RvR was a feature, one of many, but it heavily focused on PVE, and PVE content, wich is why most all expansions were designed for PVE

if the game was designed specifically around RvR, the battlegrounds would have been in the game at launch, leveling would have been primarily through RvR, the game would have focused more heavily on quests going to the frontiers, it would have forced people into the frontiers and RvR sooner...

but it didnt.. most of the storyline was driving PvE side, most of the expansions PvE related...

it wasnt untill after 2004, that mythic decided to shift focus from pve/rvr to just rvr, and hey look the game has been on a steep decline ever sense 2004....

Even if that were the case, to drop from 250k subs, at the rate they did, is still a fairly large fail. That small niche market of pvpers obviously didn't leave for a better pvp game, as there isn't one. They just left.

You'll find, even the pve heavy games still have players that exclusively pvp. I'm one of them, I'll often jump ship to wow for short spells because it's a much more enjoyable game, the pvp isn't designed as good as daoc, but it can be more fun.

And for a pve game, their arena it's argueably more hardcore than the 8v8 that's left in this game.

No, as a company EAs goal is to make money, by gaining a larger share of the MMO market. As you can see with WAR, they tried to immitate WoW and failed.
