You must be new to DAoC because for the majority of this game's history, stealthers have had to pick and choose their targets or face a horrible death. I had the highest realm points serverwide on Mordred as a Kobold Shadowblade when the server had a population of like 3000 online so I'm not a noob to the class. In those days, you were required to land a PA to stand a chance of killing anything and if you attacked armsman or zerker, the only thing going through your head was "hmm 90% chance of death but here goes anyway".

Mythic have just dropped the ball on balance..
On my own armsman I have never lost a 1v1 fight vs an assassins on Ywain ( havnt played him in 1-1.5 month though abusing valk -.- ), Masina the rr12 ns got me down to 8% one time but he was down on like 2-3% and water kited away so that ended in a draw I think
But yes they do alot of poision damage for sure, the way to beat stealthers is to make them purge ( numb for ex ) , engage them early in the fight to make them wounder/panic/throw them off their cycle weapons game abit and then just grind them down, chances the assassin vanishes when he realizes your not one of the baddies
On my armsman I find skalds to be a mayor pita and unkillable if they have a clue, stealthers not so much not even the reknowned to be great ones are really a problem.
I think however that a heavy tank as a class should be the holy water for assassins and it would make sense that the dual wield on stealthers did not cut large shields block % on heavys.

Ok listen for the 100th time, this isn't an armsman thread and this thread has nothing to do with me or any character I've ever played. The main point of this thread is the sentence I already posted:
"  ou have nightshades and other assassins popping out of stealth and doing more DPS against heavy tanks than their pure melee, archetype class equivalent (blademaster) without even using PA/CD"
There is supposed to be a substantial DPS gap between light tanks and assassins yet in many situations, assassins are doing more. This is why the balance is broken.

I'm speaking generally since I haven't been active in DAOC in a little while.
But when I think of rogues, I think of a class designed to do a lot of burst damage quickly, but usually with limited defense, and a few escape tricks if needed.
The class should be able to surprise an enemy and blow them up as fast as they can. They aren't intended for long fights.
So when you just say a rogue is doing too much damage at once, it kinda sounds like working as intended.
You say they aren't even using PA/CD, so I'm guessing that means they aren't even bothering attacking from stealth? If they are being that casual and still beating down Blademasters, maybe the issue is they have too much defense?
Just speculating.

This is a reasonable description of rouge type classes in the few other games I've played.
An easy solution to this problem is to scale their evade skill back to evade III or IV.

Agreed. Roach, Im sorry but an rr4 doesnt have all the toys that a rr10 or 12 would have. There is no way you could kill an rr10+ champ at rr4 1v1.
But besides the outrageous self-bragging you did. I do agree to an extent to what you have to say. Archers are fine. IMO rangers though need some loving, hunters got 2h + pet, scouts got shield...rangers just got screwed. But my deal is with assassin poison powers now. If an assassin pops on you and applies all their poisons your dead if you dont have insta purge. Their weapon damage although is fine.

Armsmen do need some nerfs but it should go back to this easy equation:
Paper > Rock > Scissor > Paper
Caster > Tank > Assassin > Caster
Very likely, nightshades will be addressed first if they are at all.
