I had an idea a while ago that I submitted to mythic...or ea...or bioware...or bioware mythic...or ea mythic...I dunno who but I sent it anyways.
My idea was surcoats. Something totally reasonable for the time period, and imo not terribly hard to implement.
Adding in Surcoats into the game. For those who are not sure what they are, the best thing I can say is to just google it. These would be dye-able overcoats on your armor that could be emblazoned with either guild colors, realm colors, or class banner designs seen hanging outside of their trainers chambers.
Now I was thinking of adding some restrictions to these. By adding in a new form of xp into the game. You gain this xp by taking keeps and towers. The Surcoats will unlock at certain levels and offer bonuses the higher the level up to a certain maximum. I also thought about stripping said XP if you log into another realm. By doing so, you are stripped of the Surcoat, and set to 0 NF xp. I was thinking along the leveling lines of champ xp, something that can be gained, but still takes a little while, and would really suck if you lost it. And by logging into another realm, I do not mean just popping in. This would be if you zoned into NF or high lvl rvr areas like df or laby. I would say to leave the BGs alone, because it does not effect anything at the endgame.
The bonuses on the surcoats could range from bonus rps/bps to increased repairs, siege speed etc. All stackable with current mythirians.
I feel like adding something like this would help realm hopping occurring without FORCING someone to not play other realms. But you'd get nice perks if you played one realm.
XP for these could be gained by doing things in NF
.1 for a lvl 1 tower, and 1 bub for a lvl 10 tower. Keeps can be double that (.2 and 2 bubs). Player kills gives you about a bub per 100?
These would basically be additional mythirians. NF XP would need to be gained, you gain a visible item to show off your realm pride, and lose it if you participate in rvr elsewhere. This way you get bonuses for being loyal, but are not forced to do so.
anyway that was my idea, I figure maybe their artist that has nothing better to do than paint a nice picture could do some modeling and contribute to the real game.

I doubt it can however:
Scrap the timer and replace with a reward; lets call it Realm Pride!
Your character takes heart from being with fellow defenders; filled with confidence their muscles bulge as the magical equivalent of adrenalin surges through them ... blah, blah
Realm Pride will grow over some period of time.
Realm Pride will (must) make a meaningful difference when PvPing. (Bonus not applied when PvEing).
What stats to boost? Maybe damage output and hit points. The key would be to ensure that the attacker and defender bonuses cancel each other out.
What timer to use? It has to be simple and this suggests a reasonably short duration timer. e.g. the character gets a 3% boost every e.g. 3 minutes they are logged into a realm up to a maximum of e.g. 30%. Log into another realm and the bonus is lost.
(Longer timers bonuses would mean that the bonus would have to acquire some durability to allow people to play different realms and this will lead to people leaving characters logged in at night, changing realm in the morning and so forth.)
In summary: a meaningful 'chunky' bonus that will give a character who has been logged on for e.g. a character who has been logged on for 30 minutes a real edge over someone who has just logged in. The bonus must however be easily/quickly acquired so as not to unduly penalise people who play multiple realms.
But I fear that - even if realm hopping is curtailed - realm pride won't be restored.

There are too many problems with trying to lock players out of their toons in a particular realm for long periods of time when they want to switch. Instead Mythic should use bonuses to encourage players to stick with one realm. For instance:
- relic bonuses only affect your characters if you have been playing that realm for at least 24 hours
- rp, bp, and xp bonuses only affect your characters if you have been playing that realm for at least 24 hours
- add an additional 1% rp/bp/xp bonus per day you play a realm with a cap at, say, 50%
- buff npcs will give an additional 5 points per stat if you have been playing in a realm for at least 24 hours
These sound like good ways to try.

I though about longer 'timers' for rewarding loyalty as well Xelrec; it is very seductive and tempting. In the end I concluded that you could easily end up penalising players who have characters on more than one realm / players leaving charcters logged on etc. However it might be possible.
I do think that some sort of reward system is the way ahead however.
And 50%.
Maybe it should be this large - it would clearly make a difference.
A case of deciding how long a character has to be on. 50 miutes? 100, 25?

The point is to discourage realm hoping as much as possible, to encourage people to play mostly in one realm at a time. I would set it at a few days, maybe a week. If you want to go play in another realm, go for it, but it ought to be a serious decision. If you want to play all 3 realms, or in 2 on a regular basis, no problem, you just don't get whatever minor perks they add for sticking to one realm.
I am not in favour of added damage or stats, but perhaps a bonus to realm points? First week you stick to one realm no bonus, 2nd week 5%, 3rd week 10%. The 10% bonus would stay active until you logged into another realm, then back to 0%.

Consider adding a bonus for timed played in a realm.
If I play Hibernia non stop the bonus applies, if i play multiple realms and cant add up to say 24 hours played in the last 48 I dont get the bonus.
Bonus being something like a relic bonus when its availible.
Simple.

Every day you play the same realm without having switched you get a 1% RP bonus up to a 50% RP Bonus Cap...Therefore if you play the same realm for 50 days you have a 50% RP increase. When you switch for any reason to another realm your bonus gets reset. NOT 50 Days SINCE you've played the realm, but EVERY SINGLE DAY YOU LOG INTO THE GAME you get an added 1% RP Bonus.
No need to penalize anyone, but there is a significant tangible, NOT out of control bonus that will have a serious impact on where people decide to play long term.

Far too much damage has been done to Ream Pride to be able to repair it. The changes necessary would require ripping the game apart. The only way to renew Realm Pride would be to start over with a new launch of the game via DAoC2 or Origin (which wont be happening).
Slowing realm hopping is another subject though. Realm hopping can be slowed and perhaps almost halted.
I would rather just see a simple half hour timer. Or perhaps make it 45 min. Simple is better and a 30 min or 45 min timer would stop most of the realm hopping without being excessively punitive.
Also,
I, like others, have family members that also have accounts. My daughter loves to play Hib and I am mostly in Alb. When I am not on she will use my account as her bot. When she is not on I will use her account as a bot. I can hear some GASPING, “But . . . but. . . .butt . . . that’s against the TOS . . . “ Get over it. Many, many families do it.
The friend that I joined the game with 9 or 10 years ago has 4 family members (4 accounts) and 3 of the family members each has their favorite realm (one loves Hib, one loves Alb and one loves Mid) and one family member just rotates to a different realm from day to day. But they use each other’s accounts as bots. (It is rare for them all to be in game at the same time.)
One of the guilds that some of my toons are in is a family guild. Some days when I group with a specific character/guild-mate I find that I am with the dad, other days I am with the mom and other days with their kid.
Like it or not it is common for families to use each others account as the bot and many in a family do not necessarily play the same realm.
Another thing, imo the last thing Mythic should do is to create rules that feed into the RP whoring attitude.
RP whoring was the first nail in the coffin of Realm Pride. Some who love RPs may not like the truth but one of the first stupid things Mythic put into the game that began the shift away from “if its red its dead†to “if you leach any of my f*$%ing RPs I will find you irl and rip out your . . . .†was the RPs. I am not saying “do away with RPs†just that the way Mythic implemented RPs Mythic could not have done more harm to Ream Pride if Mythic had tried to cause harm. RPs should have been implemented in a different manner than it was.
Creating a system that give bonuses to RPs in an attempt to renew Realm Pride shows a lack of understanding for the things that actually harmed Realm Pride. It would be better to find an different incentive than a bonus to RPs.

You have already argued and defeated yourself...timer is not the solution...if you want to incentive something then in the real world you throw $$$ at it. Guess what people start doing that shit because it is profitable and in their interest to do so. Same with this game...NOT OVER THE TOP incentivizing based upon amount of realm loyalty given. It is simple, brilliant, and perfect.
P.S. No, I'm not gonna continue to give you all of my ideas so you may steal them, before I buy the rights and take over this game.

Taking something that began the destruction of Realm pride and enhancing it, increasing it, is not brilliant. I am sorry if you can’t see that. You don’t pour gas on a burning building to put out a fire.
Because enhancing something that is detrimental would be self-destructive, Mythic may actually do it. They are routinely as self-destructive as they are brilliant.
"Buy the rights and take over this game" . . . Good luck with that.
