The lack of speed availability.

Players needing a speed class in their group to have fun... needing Long Wind 1... Needing Invig Potions..

Solution:

#1 Make hastener/SoTH behave just like skald speed. Meaning, when in combat - it drops, but then RETURNS after a certain amount of time. This way, all classes have access to some basic form of permanent speed, without having to slush it back to the hastener.

#2 Make Long Wind 1 default. Everyone should have it to start. That way, all you need is the Invig Potion to permanently sprint. This way, new players aren't overwhelmed.

Skald and Healer/Runie (and their Hib/Alb equivelents) could still be superior, by being faster, and possibly by returning faster to the player.

Umm buy a freaking speed gem from the bounty merchant. For 200bp's you get 20 speed of the realm charges.

And LW1? Buy yellow endo pots ffs if you are that worried.

Trust me, any new player is told immediately upon grouping in BG/RvR that they need LW1 and end pots.

Also, you get mounts if you are too lazy to use speed gem.

No offense, but it's pretty easy to figure out. mythic should have a page on their site for the BG's and their caps though. Some people don't know RR/ML caps and info isn't easy to find, unless you know to look for it. Guy in Jord was raging last night cause he was ml6 and didn't know of mlcap in CV.

Referring to low level bg's. The first experience new players have with RVR.

I want new players to continue playing, not be discouraged.

Exactly. So instead of this new player hopping in and having fun, hes being told hes not welcome in the group. He has to go to the CM and buy potions, and train a realm ability.

Its not necessary.

Holy crap ru serious? You get a free RA point at level 20. BUY LW?!

I mean this game is so freaking easy as it is to actively participate in RVR. What is next? Put your character on auto pilot and let it do the RVR for you?

What you just complained about would take you less than 5 minutes to solve.

Right, and this is why WoW has been wildly successful, while DAoC has been left behind and is on life-support.

Making the game as accessible to as many people, even those who have not played an MMO before, is the key to retaining people past the free trial.

How does removing this arbitrary barrier to entry of "Buy potion" + "Train RA" hurt you? All it does is make it a little easier for noobs to walk in and have fun.

Yes, the bounty point gems that give you speed were a very nice addition with 20 charges and I am happy they are in place.

1 extra realm skill point into LW1 will certainly destroy your class however.

On a somewhat unrelated note. If I were given the ability to redesign some classes, I would only distribute speed5 to purely support (healer/buffer) type classes. Ie. all support classes except I guess Friar and Warden (since they can fend for themselves. Because IMO speed5 fits inline with support classes who are useless on their own, but can only do harm when they support the rest of the group they are a part of. So I'm not actually suggesting they implement this, rather I think that in theory, if there were to be a mirror ability between realms it should be that they each realm has two different speed/buff/heal/CC classes, who differ in their ability to buff/heal/CC, but all have speed5.

On a somewhat unrelated note. If I were given the ability to redesign some classes, I would only distribute speed5 to purely support (healer/buffer) type classes. Ie. all support classes except I guess Friar and Warden, so maybe Alb would need a 2nd speed class. Obviously I'm not actually suggesting this, this would be a silly idea in today's game, and I fully appreciate most of the vast differences between the playstyle of the realms. But IMO speed5 belongs on a support class, where there is no dilemma of a tank having speed5 and therefore needing to be weaker in melee combat then their counterpart without speed5. There would be no comparison between Druid with speed5 vs. Thane or Reaver, or any other tank or caster class in the game, they live on totally different planets. And furthermore, speed5 really fits inline with 1 class being useless on their own, but bringing support to all the other players in the group. So again, not suggesting this, but if there were to be a mirror ability between realms I would give each realm 2 pure speed/buff/healing/CC classes that vary in their abilities to heal/buff/CC but all have speed5.

It's not the same.

And once again, I'm talking about making the game easier for new players. You and I know about these BP gems, and how to perma sprint with LW1 and pots, but new players dont.

They log on, try to do a BG, join a group, and get kicked because they can't perma sprint. So they log off never to return, and the amount of people playing our game shrinks.

Any MMO these days needs to be as open and welcoming to new players as humanly possible.

well actually every BG telporter holds that information if you care to click on it...

i know its still kind of hidden and i usually never click through dialogs if i do not have to and if i do i rarely read them.

OT:
speed for everybody is already in the game... you just have to do something for it if you are not a speed class...
