People will say Daoc has lasted this long, well still through those times people had a good website, and occasional updates.
They might keep the servers up, but the game will be dead if this total disregard for the paying customer keeps up.
Just my opinion on the subject
The Herald has been crap for years (not updating RPs, out of date info on classes, horrible search system, etc.) and we have more frequent updates now than ever. What's your point?
You're missing the entire point - hardcore players like to look up the competition and their standing among other hardcore players. Why do you think Mythic implemented things like IRS and guild IRS scores in the first place? Yes, it was another stat to compete with and it was listed on the old Camelot Herald.
I was once a hardcore player and pre-2006, closely monitored the weekly victors section of the Camelot Herald and used this information to push myself to stay in the top 25 weekly victors (and top 5 for my class) every single week.
Many of us prided ourselves on knowing the competition in excruciating detail and this included our standing among other players and guilds.
These data are impossible to obtain without the old version of the Camelot Herald.
And having a non-functional Camelot Herald is bad for new and returning players as it's extremely difficult to find a housing lot without the Map-A-Lot feature the old Camelot Herald had.
I'll go so far as to say that "updating" the Camelot Herald is the single worst thing Mythic did in the last year. Looking up housing locations (whether to save money on a CM purchase or to find an open lot) and looking at data about weekly victors, champions of the realm, and information about specific players were the two most important features of the old Camelot Herald.
Perhaps EA/Mythic really is trying to kill DAoC. If so, their "update" to the Camelot Herald is a great start.
