Was just wondering how long the old herald has been down and how long the new excuse for a website that's "under construction" has been half way up? I'm guessing there's no hope that we'll ever be able to look up characters or guilds again for stats, gimp chimp or any other reasons? Getting harder and harder even for the veterans or anyone who comes back for a period of time to keep finding a reason to fork out $15 a month for "service" like this...

I agree. I consider myself pretty gracious. I enjoy daoc. I appreciate the work thats put into it. I realize that the game is no longer in its prime and isn't going to get prime development/maintenance anymore. I'm OK with that. I enjoy the product and thats why I play. I see a lot of posts ripping on mythic and the daoc staff, and I dont generally jump on those band-wagons. No one is perfect, and I dont expect perfection. But I do expect a functioning website for the game. I thought updates were needed on the website as a lot of stuff on there was outdated. I thought it odd that they released it before it was ready, but I figured, hey, give them a week or so. But jeeze. Its been over a month now, maybe two months, and currently the site is in "under construction" mode. It goes back and forth between half-way working and not working at all.

I must admit I really dont get it. They announce a 10 year refresh on the website. They are obviously trying to draw back old players as well as attract a few new players. I really dont get it.

Can't argue with anything said above, it is really sad. Shows how bad things are when they can't even keep or maintain a website that really didn't need much changing to begin with. These days, it seems like anything they touch just gets worse.

Totally agree, that's one of the reasons i'm not resubbing. Simply they don't deserve the money.

The level of support and updates for the game and the metagame have reduced ywain to the level of a paid freeshard.
I can live (for the most part) with the lack of updates, but replacing a (mostly) functioning website and herald with a half finished work in progress was just bad.

Perhaps they'll finish it off after they fix fletching/legendary bows, which in fairness have only been broken since december 2009 and are being worked on, according to devs and knights

Months? Did you mean "years"? The Herald hasn't been a useful destination for info on DAOC for a very long time.

In all the years I spent sending in Feedback forms pointing out broken links and incorrect info on the Herald, nothing was ever fixed. Bigger fool me.

In all the years of DAoC one thing I found that separates the DAoC players from the players of many other games is the effort that the DAoC players will put forth to improve the game, to create programs for players to use, to create better maps, to test on Pendragon, to improve the Herald, etc. . . .

... these are just a few things used daily in my house by me and my room mates.... and its only a small sample of them...

and theres simular for almost EVERY MMO out there... so DAoC is definately far from unique in reguard to players dedicating freetime to make apps and guides...
