I can certainly see the utility of a plugin that raises the idle timeout to a very high value whenever you go @afk, and sets it back to 20 minutes when @afk is turned off.

however, I'm not certain that an unconditional raise of the idle timeout is a good idea, though I can't off the top of my head think of any particular reason it would not be. can anyone else think of a reason this wouldn't be something good to have? some way to abuse it?

Only reason I can think anyone would need this is if you are leeching one account while hunting another.

lol I can't beleive the responses to this. There is more to life, people.

OK let me try to break it down - I have three accounts. My fighters are on acct 1. My crafter, tinker, and mules are on accts 2 and 3.

Alrighty, tonight Chazcon the swordfighter raised his Arcane another 10 points while out hunting. Whoohoo! I just have to head back to the cottage and dig through my jewelry mule to see what I can equip now. So I log in Blavier on acct 2. I dig through his packs and find some goodies that I can use. So I pass them over to Chaz. Switch to Chazzy's acct. Ok so now I'm going through my critter suit, comparing items, equipping, unequipping, putting together the best combinations. Setting up SortIt! profiles, etc. hey, this bracelet would work, if only I tinked it to Aluvian. I log in my tinker on acct 3. Hmm, I need to dye this shirt. Log in crafter. I might spend an hour doing this.

Oops! Oh hell, my bling mule just logged out, damn timer! Now I have 3 DirectX error messages because he was dual logged. I've been dinking around so long I forgot about him. And I needed to hand him back all this leftover bling...Man, it sure would be convienent if I had Idler running...

Does it matter what we NEED Idler for? It's ridiculous to put up such a stink over a little one line idle timer. What possible rip in the fabric of the universe will happen because of Idler?

More of a want then a need. And maybe to some people it matters, to othets it doesn't. If I'm writing a plugin it matters to me what it will be used for.

Use Castaway, turn it off in game and the anti-log feature will still work.

I love ya Maddy and I love Castaway. And you Drak, and all of you. Just don't understand your mentality I guess. It's a moot point, I found Idler and I'm happy.

The mentality is of responsible software developers.

we're taught throughout our professional careers (in software development) to weight the risks and look at all the angles of projects BEFORE writing a single line of code.

It goes along with the cost-analysis phase od the software development cycle.

If you notice, most of the people who disagree with the idler "standalone" are software developers.

I don't know what it is about us, but we just try to look at the whole picture from all angles, and weigh the cost vs benefits.

One legitimate use for Idler or the like is to keep a character that you're fellowed with logged in while you hunt, without worrying about the timer. I do this to get experience for my tinker and trade mules. It's easier than unloading all their junk so they can hunt unburdened, and I can have 2 or 3 of them all fellowed with my main at once.

Actually I can think of several reasons, and have been a software developer and have no problem with this.

The argument that "software developers need to think through the consequences of their applications" is a thin argument that is often used simply to bully others into your line of thinking. And honestly a waste of time and just showing how lacking in real life experience many people are. It is like trying to blame the person who invented the gun for every homicide ever committed, which is anal and just plain stupid.

Knowing this toon... He wanted the plugin to UCM!

He now has it... he has now joined the ranks of the UCM's...

He thanked you for the info...

He will not admit the true reason he requested it... Let's all give the information giver a big round of applause!

If the purpose of this post was not as obvious as it was to me...

OH Well!
