It wouldn't have been Killbitt'd if 'someone' hadn't released a hacked DLL.

If people want to hack things, killbit won't stop them. The devs have stated numerous times that killbit is not designed to stop a determined and skilled individual. What you've done here is make it so the average user cannot use eltrack.
To quote Drak in this very thread:
>> We will never killbit a LEGITIMATE plugin because "we" want to. It's futile.

Who released a hacked DLL? I have one on my computer and I know of two other people who have it, both of whom worked on it with me, and one of whom does not even know what Asheron's Call is.
**Nobody is asking you to keep working on Tank or to keep the auth server up** but its just petty and stupid of you to keep the 6 players who have a working tank from playing. I don't really feel you have the right to discontinue a program I already have installed and running.
In fact I'm pretty sure you do NOT have that right. I can still install Windows 3.1 even though I cannot purchase it or receive help from Microsoft. You can pull availability, but already installed copies are fair use.
edit: It's also really really weak of the Decal devs to bow to this guy's wish. He should pull his program from distribution, but it's NOT your responsibility to keep people from using it.

And it's not "weak" of the Dcal Devs to killbit the plugin.
We weren't "bowing" to him.. in fact far from it. We've always been pretty clear on our feelings of ELTank. But that aside, he asked for it to be killbitted, and we've always said that if an author asked, we'd do it.
Elgar asked.
So don't try to turn it into a Decal Dev thing. We were only doing what was asked by the plugin author.

Once you make a product and release it, Elgar cannot force people to stop using it. All he can do is pull distribution and discontinue it, just like old versions of software. They don't make or distribute AIM 4.0 anymore, but if you still have it downloaded you have the right to use it.

You can kill whatever you want if you've coded in protections against it.
Microsoft could have coded in protection to Windows 3.1 so that after a certain time, or whenever they wanted to, they could completely disable it.
It's their software, and it's their right. Microsoft didn't do it because there was no reason to, and there really wasn't any method to.
I can disable ACDualClient whenever I want if I so choose to do that. I don't have any reason to, but if I wanted to, I could. It's my software and I hold complete and supreme power over its fate unless I don't code in the ability to disable it. That's a limitation on me, and not a limitation on the software or the user.
Elgar made ELTank. Decal provides a method to disable unsupported Plugins. Elgar is no longer supporting it, and wants it dead. That's his right, and we follow his wishes to disable it considering it is our product which makes the allowance to do that.

Xieish, you might want to go back to law school before quoting non-existant laws and/or rights.

As for AIM 4.0, I'm not even sure if that works anymore, and if AOL were smarter about it, they would have made protections to disable old versions. It's fairly trivial, but usually not worth the time.
If they coded in protections to disable AOL 4.0, then they have every right to disable it whenever they release a new version, or just because they feel like it. There are no laws governing the disabling of software. You have the "right" to run the software for as long as the author "allows" you to run it. If they don't code in protections, then it looks like technically, you're "allowed" to run it forever. Otherwise, they can kill it whenever and for whatever reason they want.
