I am thinking about getting the 23 which is why I was there today. The subcompact looks way to small for my hand, and the 23 has enough rounds and appears more concealable than the full size. But I will rent some at the range before making my purchase.

I also carry a 23 or a 21, depending on my mood and the clothes I feel like wearing. I carry them both in a Desantis Stealth IWB holster with a spare mag at about 7 or 8 o'clock (I'm a lefty). If you have average to large sized hands, the 21 will fit you better than the 23. Check it out when you check out the 23. Pretty sure I'm going to get a Supertuck deluxe for my 21 though and see if I can get away with lighter clothing with that holster.
Here are quotes from my friends who've fired my Glock 21:
"Wow, that [the glock 21] feels even nicer than my Sig."
"Actually, see for yourself, but that's [the glock 21] much more comfortable than my 1911."
In truth, the 23 bucks a bit more than the 21 - the added weight and heavier spring really makes a difference. You can also carry 13 + 1 of 45 ACP in a 21. I'm probably looking to sell my 23 to get a 4th generation 23 or maybe a 37 (45 GAP) because the grip size on the 23 is just a little small for my liking and the 4th generations feature those adjustable grip sizes...
Oh and for the record, I carry a pistol with me when I am hunting as well - whether with my shotgun or my rifle. Pistols are good for dispatching rabid wild dogs that you see sometimes running down deer, they're good for putting an injured animal down quickly with a head shot that will be much less likely to ricochet off of rocks in the ground dangerously, and they're useful of course for self defense if your rifle/shotgun is empty and you've got a charging animal or charging drunk a-hole to deal with.
