Tebows popularity itself contradicts your claim. Tebow has a sense of humor about this. Maybe you could too.
Popular culture is a result primarily not a cause. It has been shaped by hyper self righteous assholes trying to control others through legislation. Don't blame popular culture blame the moral majority, Pat Robertson, Jerry Fallwell, an anti_gay church protecting anal rapers of young boys, and people who cry every time there is a joke about their religion.
If Christians want to improve their image they might begin by acting like followers of Christ. The rest may just fall into place.
