The model needs to change radically. They are just going to keep trying to milk it until they collapse under their own weight and fail. Considering the money they throw around and legal clout they have bought with it it'll take a long time and they'll do a lot of damage before that happens.

There IS hope though.

Seeing a lot of progress lately in how media is delivered to customers. Prime examples being the Kevin Smith movie Red State, and the latest Louis CK stand up special. Eliminate the giant studio distribution machines entirely and create a path directly from the creators to the end users/viewers/whatever.

Once people start figuring out how those guys did it, it WILL catch on and the general public as well as the media creators will profit.

edit: For those that don't know what I'm talking about, check the Louis CK page at https://buy.louisck.net/

" You're here to buy the Louis C.K. - Live at the Beacon Theater special. This is only available on this site at a cost of $5, worldwide[1], paid via PayPal or Amazon.
No DRM, no regional restrictions, no crap. You can download this file, play it as much as you like, burn it to a DVD, whatever.

Society isn't so advanced that justice and liberty are automatic givens.

Whether we'll let our Library of Alexandria fall, that being the internet, is up to us... the citizens of the world. We're talking about the greatest equalizer of human knowledge and communication. Anyone with the will and access can learn from any opinion or source that they want to, and can participate in any culture. Governments of varying sorts will all want to control it, and it's up to the people of the world to not bow to that.

Google site:vnboards.ign.com BritonGuy RIAA or Britonguy piracy if you want my other thoughts on it. Piracy isn't stealing food off anyone's table, and a fair look at anti-pirates vs pirates finds the anti-pirates just as much or even more immoral.

I think the protests are going about it all wrong.

Protesting the entertainment industry by boycotting it would be a lot more effective.

That's what p2p and downloads are...and SOPA is their response to boycotting.

I don't agree. P2P and downloads are very much a normal part of life for the average consumer. The same people who buy from the entertainment industries also pirate from them and make up a very large portion of the average P2P download base. The veil of propaganda is lifted and most people just aren't that shocked by fear mongering of anti-piracy leagues. They share some stuff, buy some stuff, and most likely the piracy leads to greater profits rather than a loss.

AA band i am a big fan of, stuck mojo, does this same thing. They dropped their label many years ago and have done the last 2 albums for sale thru the net. THey have made more money since dropping their label then before. I now truly own every one of their albums, and a vast majority of my money (all cept the first 2 albums i bought at Best Buy) go straight to them and not to a POS record label.

I really wish more people would take this stance. I have no problem throwing some bones to the people who make the movies, music and games i like. But i am sick of paying for profanity music, profanity movies and $60.00 games that have less than 40 hours of game play and NO replay value.

Oh, and regarding games..... If you want me to pay 60 bucks for a game, it better be ATLEAST 60 hours to beat it.
