It tells you that they'd rather be rich than see the criminal punished. Maybe it even means they didn't mind being raped all that much.

I actually agree with that.
I won't even pretend to know what a woman is thinking after she is raped but I would think that on one hand you have a sports star who, even if convicted, probably won't get much time and on the other hand enough money to provide for my family for a very long time. Seems like an easy choice.

Thats why I think Michael Jackson is innocent too.
Are you telling me that if your son or daughter was raped, you'd have a dollar amount in mind where if you were paid, you'd be able to watch the person you know raped them, walk free?

A parent's point of view is very different from being the person raped. If I was raped I would take the money for my family in a heart beat. Of course I can say that as a man who has never been raped.

I actually agree with that.
While I do not know the details of this case, it is an unfortunate condition of our legal system where justice is not always served on either side of the scales, i.e., innocents are convicted of crimes that they did not commit or such cases as the OJ Simpson fiasco where he was found not guilty of murder, but was sued and lost in a civil court action.
People try to find justice where ever they can, if they cannot depend on our judicial system to provide it.
I sincerely hope that the majority of people in America do not have such severe intolerant and ignorant views as yours.

No one walks free because they settle in a civil court. Go figure out basic legal proceedings and then come back with your still worthless interpretation.
Maybe you settle because you're full of crap. Maybe you settle because some slightly larger payment isn't worth years of reliving a traumatic event or defending your reputation in courtrooms and the public spotlight. Maybe you settle because you just want to move on with your life. There's a lot of reasons to settle a civil case with no relevance to guilt. That's not even touching on the imperfections of the justice system and the reality that sometimes you just don't have the evidence to convict the bastard or prove your innocence regardless of the truth...

edit: And to the above comment... if my wife or daughter were raped the last thing on my mind would be "How much money can I get out of these people."
Even if the guy was found not guilty for whatever reason.
Going after revenge money, and especially settling outside of court, just means that even you were not sure enough about your case to take it to trial.
