2 cups of all purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
dash of salt
4 tablespoon butter

Heat the milk (don't boil) toss in the butter, stir till melted, turn off heat

Sift flour salt and baking powder together in large bowl

Slowly add milk mix to dry ingredients and use your hand to incorporate everything together into a ball of dough (don't over mix, just till it barely comes together)

Roll dough out and cut into strips, then pinch off pieces about the size of your little finger and drop into boiling water. Cook till they surface, then for an additional 2 minutes. Work in batches of appropriate size for your pot. Don't overfill.

Once they are all cooked, add them to your chicken stew which should already be simmering and fully cooked (Do Not Cover) and cook for an additional 10 minutes. (or however long you want, I like to cook mine for hours)

That's for dense dumplings.

For lighter dumplings, forget the boiling water and cook directly in the chicken stew (which should be thinner of course) and cover tightly. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.

ptilk that sounds like the dumplings I remember! I will have to give that a shot.

I think I'll also try the rising yeast-dough ones too, just to see if we like those too.

I usually use a bit of corn starch slurry to really thicken up the stew right before i get ready to eat it.

The yeast dough sounds interesting, never made it, but sounds like something I had a few times at a friend of mines house. Wasn't with chicken stew though, it was with this beef and potato dish. Very, very good.
