I'd like to get some other people's recipes for the dumplings. I have made chicken and dumplings for my kids, and although the entire family is wild about the chicken stew/soupy part, nobody is too keen on the dumplings. They don't taste like the ones I remembered as a kid (no it wasn't canned biscuits then or now) and my kids dislike them. So lately I've just been making the soup part and then making rolls or biscuits to eat/dip on the side.

The best dumplings are those made with dough that has to rise (any good bread recipe works). After the first rising, put the dough on a floured board, pinch off pieces a little larger than a golf ball, and put them on a greased pan to rise again. When they're doubled in size, carefully place them on top of the main dish (chicken stew, beef stew, ribs and saurkraut, etc), cover, and let them steam for 20 minutes.

Best dumplings you ever tasted. My family begs for this stuff (it's on the menu for tomorrow night).
