one time they wouldn't let us out of the building for lunch...had to eat from the roach cart.

Dallas County doesn't pay anything. They offer you a free DART pass, like you're supposed to think that's some kind of good deal. My hometown in Georgia paid $25 a day, more if you were on a grand jury.

When was $10 set as the Jury Duty payment? Was it when $10 really was something? I mean, it might pay for parking now, and for sure not lunch. I think Jury Duty pay needs to be brought up to date.
Most employers will actually pay you your normal hours, and you turn the $10 or $20 a day over to them. I think many states allow them to write that expense off on taxes.
And given the low jury differential pay the easiest way to get out of jury duty is to simply state that your employer does not reimburse you for the time, and it would be a financial hardship.

i think they do $11 here...
maybe you should stop going to a fine dining restaurant by yourself for lunch then...$10 should buy a meal in any city in the United States without any trouble at all...especially lunch.
