They would not have a taser if they were not going to shoot people with it... you dont taze bambi. Furthermore, these are federal law enforcement agents tasked with upholding federal law on federal property.

Sounds like the U.S. govt thinks the plant is special. We the people own that land and I dont want dogs to trample them down... just kick everyone out. If they loved it so much they should of attempted to buy it instead.

I really do not see why any one really thinks it is okay to run from a law enforcement officer. There is different classes of rangers... everything from the old folk volunteer who walks the trails, to rangers that show visitors around, to federal rangers looking for poachers/unleashed dogs.

Nobody was running from a law enforcement officer. Walking away sure. Arrest him, you know, by putting cuffs on him and not attacking him with physical harm.

Issues of jurisdiction aside, is it really so damn hard to understand that the physical risks to the officer AND suspect are much higher with physical restraint?

http://www.icpra.org/sites/default/files/homepage/CPRC_CED_final_report_01_2006.pdf

It's idiotic to say an officer should just let a suspect walk away and it's ignorant to argue that the guy walking away is going to calmly and politely allow you to handcuff him or that it's safer to physically restrain him. The fantasy land some of you live in is just unbelievable...

from another source... apparently it is this little park ranger lady and this dude just thought he could blow her off... i'm glad she tazed him... I would have too.

"Hesterberg, who said he didn't have identification with him, allegedly gave the ranger a false name, Levitt said.

The ranger, who wasn't identified, asked Hesterberg to remain at the scene, Levitt said. He tried several times to leave, and finally the ranger "pursued him a little bit and she did deploy her" electric-shock weapon, Levitt said. "That did stop him."...

"The ranger was trying to educate residents of the rule, Levitt said."

I am ALWAYS a law and order guy. But not this situation. Tazing a dog walker is ridiculous. Frankly, tazing someone who is not a threat and walking away from you is stupid. Why didn't she call for backup? I bet she loses her job for not following proper protocol on the use of her tazer. No matter what, I bet she wishes she had kept the damn thing on her hip.

only 2 reasons a officer or ranger should use a taser

1. to protect themselves from a suspect

2. to protect a suspect from injuring themselves

Sounds like a very effective way to educate the public about the change of ownership of the land and the new rules that come with it.

So if there were volunteer shock collars that allowed authorities of all sorts to press a button and send you into a seizure, all you respect the uniform people would wear it, right?
