Good job Gildash... you managed to google the wrong agency  State park rangers have no jurisdiction in a national park. Here in PA our State Park "rangers" are called the Park Police and goto the State Police academy and yes are actual police officers. However they have no jurisdiction inside the National Parks.
The Ranger in question was a National Park Ranger however... and I'm pretty sure my buddy who has been a Ranger for 10+ years at Yellowstone knows what he can and can't do at his job.
Oh btw, I'm a Correctional Officer, an actual part of the Law Enforcement Society. I'm trained in ALL that same crap as well. If someone walks onto the Prison grounds and refuses to leave, guess what I'm allowed to do. I can ask them to leave, issue them a citation, and if they refuse... I get to call the Police... and I have more authority than a National Park Ranger does.
The reason they are trained in such things is because they are part of a call up tree in the case of an emergency, such as a riot.

wrong, if the park ranger knows how to do his job he'll have a description of you, and he can follow you back to your vehicle and write down that information as well. If you decide to just walk around and try to avoid going back to your vehicle and waste your time, you will eventually be looking at an actual police officer who was called in by the ranger.

I still say you are wrong though. Everything I saw about national park rangers said they were still responsible for "enforcement of laws and regulations".
Shrug. I give up.

My feelings on this are pretty simple. You respect the uniform. And yes, the laws may be stupid, but you don't change them by being obstinate.
