This cat, a tom cat of ours, it got an injury to its left cheek about two weeks ago. It wasn't a big deal until it scratched the hell out of it, making it a much larger wound. We tried treating it a dozen different ways, but it just kept removing whatever we put on his wound, and making it much, much worse. We finally got a cone-collar at Pets Mart and a bunch of pads, gauzes, and other crap. So this lil guy has had this cone on for two weeks while his wound heals up.

It is almost completely healed up now. Because of that he feels a lot better and desperately wants to go outside. He can't poke his head past our insulated curtains so he's been tearing at them, and even pulled one down just so he could sit on the sill. He's been very anxious to get back outside, and generally being a terror, which has gotten him into trouble. Saturday night, I awoke as if from a dream.What the hell was that warm liquid running down my abdomen, soaking into my underwear. It covered my wife's mid section too. I halfway sat up to find the goddamned cat sitting on us peeing like a race horse.

Two comforters, all the bed linens, our clothes, all had to come off. Late night showers, flipping that California King mattress over after we cleaned it...god what an ordeal. I wanted to kill that damned cat.

I hope you have some stuff to neutralize the urine on the mattress. You generally have to soak it with it. If you don't you will be smelling it FOREVER.

That's why you never have a cat, you can let them hang out in your house, come to know them and appreciate their presence....but never try to "own" one....

We had an older cat with some health problems that would sometimes have an accident while she sleeped. The mattress stores sell a liner that you can put over the mattress and it will keep any moisture from soaking through to the mattress. It has a thin fabric surface that sort of looks like terry cloth over a vinyl liner so you can use it with or without a mattress pad. From then on worst thing we had to do was change the bedding but didn't have to worry about the mattress.
