most gang members do not shy away from a fight, and generally they are a lot braver than your typical person. They train themselves to not fear knives or guns, and to keep fighting after being stabbed/shot.

One of my best friends bought a biker bar. I hung out there a lot. It was the primary bar for the home chapter of the Bandidos. Crazy stuff happened almost all the time. That is about all I will say.

It's true. When I was in the gang, we wasn't scared of nuthin. Now that I'm out of the gang, I am scared of my shadow.

Well even if you see people get shot/stabbed such in the neighborhood, that on its own doesn't do away with the fear of yourself being killed/wounded in combat. You need to prepare for that separately. Although the violent upbringing would help you deal with the aftermath (friends/family dying, not caring that you took a life, etc.).
In some gangs there is a strong sense of brotherhood, in others it is not promoted as much, and greed and competition is strong between members. It's more about getting to the top so you get more money and risk your life less.
(my source is watching lots of Gangland episodes and similar shows)
Wow... thank you for showing me that everything I've learned at the seminars my job made me goto on Gangs, Gang activity, and Gang mentality was wrong. I'm going to go in and talk to them today and have them bring you in to talk. I mean obviously you with your watching of Gangland have way more knowledge and experience than the guy we have now. He's only spent 35 years researching, dealing with, and investigating gangs.

We had a (small town, affiliated with the red bloods or whatever the name of them is/was) gang headquartered next door to my house as a kid. Never going to forget the SWAT team surrounding it as my mom and I left for a softball tournament that I was in. Took my parents four years to get that house sold.

I paid a gang to watch my double parked rented Lincoln Continental in Harlem where I had a project there once, gack in the 1980's..
I gave them $10/day with the proviso that I would give them $50 on Friday, since I knew I was leaving Thursday night
So back in DC as I was doing my expense report, I put $40 down as "valet parking", and got reimbursed.
